The kp2 has more effects, and more unique effects. The kp2 is also suitable for producing, so is the efx500...but obviously everything on it has been way over used, and there isnt near the amount of variety.

The kp2 has 2 samplers, and everything.

Despite all of this I still dont know which one I'm going to get...I guess I'll worry about it more once I have the money.

I need to play around with the kp2, to find out what it can do. Like, does it have a transform effect like the efx500? I know you can edit the samples, like you can on the efx 500, you just edit the samples instead of the echo loop. I think you might be able to do and echo loop on the kp2, and edit it as well.

If anybody here has the kp2 let me know.

From what I understand, the KP2 claims to have like 90 effects, but in reality there are like 10 types of each. So like 10 slightly diff flangers, 10 diff delays etc. So, it really doesn't have as much variety as they would have you think. I have never played with one though, so don't really know what to tell ya.

Filter, Isolator, Distortion, Wah, Talking Modulator, Flanger, Vibrato, Tremolo, Slicer, Auto Pan, Phaser, Pitch Shift, Delay, Ping-Pong Delay, Tape Echo, Multi Tap Delay, Reverb, Gate Reverb, Reverse Delay, Ring Modulator, Broken Modulator, Analog Modeling Synthesizer, Percussion Synthesizer, KAOSS Synthesizer, Vocoder (Manual/Auto Tuning), Sample/Play (Loop, Forward/Reverse, Time Stretch, Scratch)

So yeah the way they get to say theres so many effects is by having different types of synths, and having ones where you can combine to effects (and control them with different parts of the pad)

Samplers are sure handy though...because it would be like having 2 echo loops on the efx500, and you can edit the samples too, and do even more to them than you can the echo loops on the efx.

I just need to know if it has an auto trans effect like the efx500. I'm thinking maybe "slicer" is like a trans effect?

Does anybody here own this thing?

Someone said they had one with a PCV275, so i'm sure someone's got one.

I can't wait for X1500 to really use my EFX... It sounds like shit on 275

just how bad does it sound with the 275, and in what way does it sound bad?

Can you still do zabielesque scratching without the volume going all out of control?

Well I don't have a CDJ so I really can't try out any real zabiela scratching. This should give you an idea of how it performs in general on my 275.

When I do an echo loop, if I go to kill the channel fader with the send and return at 12 o' clock, the loops sounds at about 25% volume of the original track, now you can get it back up by turning send and receive up. Now the only problem with this is, if you go to put another track in and have it on post effects, it will than sound about 200% of what it should be since the send and return is all the way up. So really the only remedy would be to be constantly fiddling with gains whenever you want to use FX.

The other thing is with Trans, which is the effect Zabiela uses alot in his work, you cannot hear it at all unless you turn the send and receive both up to about +50%. This than causes the track volume to raise and the trans starts clipping and sounding like shit.

It's hard to describe maybe I should record a demo of me fucking with all of the stuff on the 275 so you can all get an idea?

Maybe when the new mixer comes I will do a demo from each to show the difference.

That would be awesome.

the kp does have trans effects, but unlike the efx, you can't really set it and then have both hands free for other things. The effect only lasts whilst you have a finger on the pad. You can save any touchpad movements, but then you still need to hold a switch on to replay that.
I haven't messed about with the samplers long enough to comment on the echo loop functions, but between the two banks and the options for replaying them, there's a lot of room for creativity.
One downside I've found of the KP is that's it's too easy and fun, you'll have all manner of drunks trying to do stuff on it. I lent mine to a friend, within a week his housemates had dented the pad. they didn't seem to understand that hitting it hard doesn't make louder noises. Fortunately they're going to buy a new one for me and keep the damaged one.

I have a KP2 and you can press the hold button while you are pressing on the pad, so then you can remove your finger and the effect will still be on...is this what you are talkign about?

Also someone else said that there are only 10 ranges of effects and that within each group they don't differ much... can't say I agrre with that. IMO theres a huge variety within each group.

if you are using a 275, ditch the send/recieve!

it sounds better having it just on the master signal, if you are creative enough with it, it sounds just as good. althouhg obviously there are limitations..

ouyt of the 2 effects units, i went for the efx500. mainly because its easy to control, and you can duplicate things you have done previously much easier. granted the kp2 has lots of effects, but they are all mainly variations, and you can get a lot of different sounds from an efx500 by combining 2 effects because the thing is basically 2 effects units in 1 box.
