(Yet another) whitelabel stylus problem

Three weeks ago, I bought a pair of Whitelabels for my TTX-1's. One of them works flawlessly, while the other can't cue up well, even with added weight. The one that can't cue well also had a terrible "muffled" sound but that went away over time.

I checked to see if any wires were hanging down and that wasn't it. I also tried that break-in thing where you leave the stylus on a blank record overnight for a week(I took the blank records off to practice, then put them back on when I finished).

I am pretty sure it's the stylus and not the cartridge/TT because I tried the bad stylus on the cartridge/TT that worked ok and it still skipped, and I tried the good stylus on the cartridge/TT that didn't work well and it worked fine.

I tried increasing the weight on the bad needle from 2g to 2.5g and it didn't seem to help much, and the good one works fine with 2g. Maybe the two needles just require different weights and I should try even more on the bad one?

I'm not sure what to do because it gets really annoying to not be able to cue normally on one of my decks. I don't know if Guitar Center will let me trade in my bad one for a new one because they have a no returns policy on needles. If that doesn't work, should I just fork over the money for a new needle?

I'm not really sure what to do in this situation, I'm wondering if this has happened to anybody else or if anyone has some advice.

Shure warranties their needles from manufacturer defects. Call their tech support and I bet they'll send you a replacement stylus free of charge.

I would call shure first see what they will do for you. Another thing, do you use your whitelabels for scratching or lots of cueing or backspinning? I've noticed their cantilevers are very fragile and not good for scratching and require lots of care.

Problem solved! I went to Guitar Center before calling Shure just to give it a shot and they gave me a brand new one after I told the guy there the problem. It was outside of the 14-day return period, but not outside of the 30-day money-back guarantee period. I also didn't buy that extended warranty that they try to sell you when you buy things there, but I guess that didn't matter. I tried out my new Whitelabel and after pushing up the wires on the bottom, it worked just like the other one. I guess this means thread closed?

I never tried scratching on them, it had the problem out of the box. The problem wasn't actually going backwards or fowards on the record(I think, I didn't try that too much), but once I spun it back past the first beat, it would slip over the groove most of the time, or even off the record in some extreme cases. This made cueing up extremely annoying.
