ok guys ..... i cant help but to raise this question
if the FS, either version 1 or version 2 is so F*CK*D up .... why is it that PVD is using it ? ... im not sure if it has either screwed up on him during his sets ...
now im deciding to buy perhaps the SSL .... but im not sure if people are recommending the SSL becoz they are biased to it .. or perhaps they are working for rane ........
it costs me SGD $900++ to get the ssl ... i just dont want to get it and then regret it later....... i kinda like the graphic interface of FS better then the SSL .. but if the FS is really a lousy equipment i will get the ssl
perhaps i should start a vote? anyway guys ... please help me out in my decision making
hehehe

I've owned FS1.1. It's hardware is very unreliable for me on everything i've tried it on from mac, intel p4s w/: 845mp notebook and 865pe chipsets and even a kt333a chipset w/ amd xp-2200. It's "Scratch-amp" would always disconnect itself and cause the older versions of FS to hang. I've then tried the software on a older 1.0 Scratchamp and it worked flawlessly. So then i started to email Stanton for around a month, only to not get any answers. I also called and told someone about my problems only to be told that the next revision for windows XP will fix my issues. Well when the next revision was made official, i found out that i would need to pay $50 to get the upgrade (which wouldn't do anything to help) in hopes of fixing the allready screwed hardware. That's when i threw in the towel and contacted my friend at GC to allow me to do a return b/c of defective hardware and get credit.
Now, within the past month or so i bought SSL. Needless to say, it just works. The tech support on their message board includes beta testers, programmers, from both Rane AND SERATO! And they usually will get back to you within hours ifnot minutes! Also, latency is good, sound quality is great, and stability is solid as well.
So it's your call... If you don't want to believe me and do what pretty-boy PVD does, go ahead. He's probably paid or sponsored by NI And/Or Stanton to use that product, and don't forget: he's more valuable marketing tool than any regular bedroom or opening dj, so he get's all the tech support he needs.

This is from the PVD Cream Closing Party set on djmixes2k last month. I have never used FS but if somebody has, is this maybe a FS hickup?

Here we have the power of marketing...
You have SSL where everybody that owns it loves it and FS where a lot of people have problems and dislike it but a big name DJ is backing it. If PVD didn't use it you know you would go with the SSL/Rane product. SSL makes awesome audio software and Rane builds top notch gear. Not to mention the support!
PVD is probably my favorite DJ but I knew I can depend on Rane and when I had a problem they were there for me 100%.
I had an audio drop out issue with SSL when I first got it. I would get a quick drop once every few songs and the general quality was somewhat choppy during vocals. So I got on the SSL forum and let them know. There were totally interested it solving the problem.
I traced it back to CPU utilization by the Window Server process on Mac OSX. Basically the graphics for SSL were so CPU intensive for the OS to render that it was actually starving SSL. Since I live in Seattle, I went over to Rane and showed them the issue. The support guy showed me the next version of SSL, which had a setting to lower the screen refresh rate. In version 1.2 it's hard coded at 60 FPS but in 1.3 (still in beta) you can set it yourself in increments of 5. At 10 FPS and a buffer of 1 the display looks very fluid and my CPU is at 40%ish. Since then I have not had a SINGLE problem with audio quality in probably 50 hours of use.
Some people in the SSL forum were pointing out that they saw PVD talking to the Serato Rep at a trade show. I wouldn't be shocked if PVD made a switch to SSL in the near future. Check out the post:

In the same post the Serato rep said:
"I was talking about the fact that we will never release a new version of software or hardware that will make your existing hardware obsolete. If, in the future, we were to make new hardware, for example... if we were to make a version that supported 3 turntables, then we would need to change the hardware ... notice all the ifs and thens... so, having established this hypothetical situation that would require a change to the hardware, I went on to say that all new versions of the software would still support the old/existing hardware."
Are FS1 users going to be taken care of forever? Yeah right...
If you ask me there is nothing to vote on. SSL wins, hands down.
