What's inside is simply stunning. Consistent with the genre's deep, dub-influenced sound, the album presents a multi-layered mix of synths, beats, and piano boosted by trance-like climaxes of anthemic waves, though the focal point remains Porter's irresistibly propulsive bass lines. His eclectic 'Porterhouse' style ranges beyond house to artfully weave elements of jazz, soul, and funk into the unrelenting mix. Taken as a whole, Homegrown is an ecstatic, even orgiastic, sampling of Progressive House, a dizzyingly rich amalgam of pounding beats and serpentine bass lines. – TEXTURA.ORG
Up-and-coming electronica golden boy Steve Porter. –PHILADELPHIA WEEKLY
For his debut artist LP, Sasha and Sander Kleinenberg's protégé Steve Porter delivers one of the best albums released in a year. Porter exercises his agile musicality, waltzing effortlessly from the jazzy piano riffs of "Fluffer Nutter" and "Beat N Potatoes," to the booming 4/4 and high-energy of "Vodka Cranberries." Porter's ingenuity shines-through in the devilish dissonance of "Rage In The Cage" and the brilliant weirdness of "Lady Elaine." A murderously good effort all-around. -DJ TIMES MAGAZINE
Steve Porter is definitely one to watch—just ask Chris Fortier, Sander Kleinenberg and Sasha. Porter’s debut artist album is pricking up ears with its subtle, prolific spirit that speaks volumes without using a word. He is the first American producer to brilliantly capture the minimalist, hard-hitting sound coming out of Germany at the moment. But don’t get the wrong idea—there is nothing derivative about this album or this man. His original music and DJ sets simply possess some of the same techy traits, funked up beats and cool meandering edge you might hear in an underground German club. On Homegrown Porter puts all original material together into a seamless, expertly mixed fashion to make a compelling CD that feels like the future of dance music. -BPM MAGAZINE
Mr. Porter is riding the crest of a wave of upcoming producers, creating a solid distinction between the old with an infectious new sound that blends elements of funk, techno, retro-electro, trance and progressive house. -INNERPHASE NY
Steve Porter, the 26-year-old DJ prodigy from Western Massachusetts, may have humbly started spinning in his parent’s basement and DJing his own senior prom, but it didn’t take long for Porter to move beyond Amherst and take over the rest of the world. These days, Porter is based in New York and spins his infectious house music in clubs all over the planet alongside superstars such as Sasha. –BOSTON GLOBE
Steve Porter is no doubt one of the hottest of the next generation producers. This debut stands in the top league of heavy hitters. Steve has this continuity that I can’t put my finger on with the entire mix yet he still manages to hit every spectrum of dance sounds and styles. Once of the best put together compilations of original material… -PROGRESSIVE-SOUNDS.com
Edgy piano sounds on the opening track Fluffer Nutter, a winning opening… Backed up by unusual chords and chord progressions, he creates a sonic masterpiece... Mix CDs are common, but mix CDs that are entirely artist produced are not, and to produce a whole set that work so well together is impressive. –IN THE MIX.au.com
Disco-tech prodigy Steve Porter's career got fast-tracked when some of his tracks came across the desk of then-Twilo resident and Fade Records co-founder Chris Fortier, who immediately signed Porter to the fledgling imprint. Fast forward just a few years and Porter's tracks can be found in the crates of some of the biggest names in the biz, including Sasha, who invited Porter to open for him on the North American legs of the Airdrawndagger and Involver tours, Sander Kleinenberg, Lee Burridge, Derrick Carter, Carl Cox and Paul van Dyk. His funky, tech-twisted house style, which Porter's dubbed "Porterhouse," has also scored the Boston native (he currently hold a resident at Beantown's only after-hours club RISE) some high-profile remix gigs, including one for "Trance Goddess" Sandra Collins. –SAN FRANCISCO EXAMINER
