hmm... we´re on our way back from Thailand and stopping over in Bahrain on the 19th... if I´d known a couple months in advance of Paul´s gig, I might had the flight stopover in Dubai instead and added an extra night - would have been worth it!

THE ATMOSPHERE!! THE CROUD!!
the party seen here in Dubai is OK,, its not all that, but at the same time its one of the best in the area (middle east & north east.. u got Dubai, Beirut, and Sharm Shiekh where they opened a new Pacha )..
good quality DJ's come here often to Dubai to spin something special on a special night, ex; Deep Dish been here twice, PVD have been in the area (Lebanon) but not Dubai yet, Roger Sanchez came twice to Dubai and both times he was GREAT.. and so on..
U always have the fucked up crowd who doesn’t appreciate the music and the only thing they do is show off, give the girls a hard time and then after all that, they'll get all trashed and drunk.
but bottom line.. the party here is great if u take the negative things of ur mind and just lay back and enjoy the party
Well food and housing you will not find any trouble... their are many places to live and eat... their are places in Dubai that I have never seen anything even close to that in my life before. if you want examples telll me ill give you a few links.....

could you please tell me what life is like in dubai?
ie food, housing, music, etc
i hear it's a really cool place. |
I was just there for a couple of weeks around new years. Lots of nice buildings as they are trying to be the number 1 tourist destination. The whole place is built on sand, so they are using a lot of water for their grass and palm trees that otherwise would not be able to last more than a week in this area. This is probably one of the best places for shopping as there are no taxes and lots of trade. It almost seems like a big huge dutty free shop.
Food is very similar to what we would get in North America.
Housing in Dubai used to be cheap, but the prices are going up. The rent and purchase pricing is very similar to the prices in any larger North American City, but still does not compare to the likes of New York, etc.
Lots of people that come from the west make good salaries, and it shows. Plenty of Bimmers, Land Rovers, Mercedeses everywhere and due to that you get a lot of people showing off. Tab1845 describes this best, and I have to agree with his whole comment on nigthlife and status.
Another thing that you dont hear about, but is very visible when you are there, is prostitution. There are many regular clubs where the patrons are local men, and many, many russian and chinese girls. Its very sad and funny to see men dancing with eachother as the girls are only there for the money.
They do also have a few nice clubs where they try to avoid this problem, and these places are nice to go. But as this is a very male oriented society, you do get a lot of guys that are not very "curteous" to the women. Also, unless you are going to these places with your girlfriend, or you know people, you might have trouble getting in as a single guy (due to prostitution problem mentioned above).
Another thing that I noticed is that people are not as friendly as here, believe it or not. After spending time in Dubai, I went to Bangkok, and what a difference that was. People were more courteous and friendlier.
One statement summarizes my experience in Dubai:
Nice buildings and beaches, but that's about it.
