9800 pro every time, higher ram and core speeds are worth far more than extra memory.

Think of it this way

Would you rather have:

3Ghz CPU with 512MB PC3200 RAM

or

1.5Ghz CPU with 1G PC2700 RAM

?

When I read a review on a 256MB card on cnet.com they said that the technology isn't used on todays games

Afaik, doom3 and hl2 are the only games currently that would make any use of video ram above 128, but as I said, those games would benefit MUCH more from more memory and core speed.

a simpler way of clearing this up to to look for benchies between the 2

(pic from a different thread, so the highlighted bits mean nothing here )

Proof enough for me

Futureshop has it for 50 bucks off, unless I find a cheaper place that's likely where I'll be heading for it.
