Volume problems when recording to MP3 player

Whenever I record a mix to my Iriver MP3 player, the volume of the mix is extremely low and pretty much not usable.

The symbol on the MP3 player where I plug the recording line is of a mic. Could this be due to the fact that it is just a mic line and not a line in line? If I record direct to my PC, the songs skip within my DJ software; which I don't get because I have a very fast laptop(3.2 ghz Pentium(not M), 1G Ram, ATI 9700 mobile RADEON).

Also, could this be a problem with recording with an RCA to mini plug cable? If so, what USB or PCMCIA sound cards record from RCA to RCA?

I use myxoft DSS DJ right now because I do not have an ASIO sound card that can be used with Traktor. Think I should just get a sound blaster audigy or extigy

Any help would be appreciated
Thanx,
Craig

As far as ur computer problems, if you have a 3.2ghz p4 and your recordings are skipping hten it is likely ur sound card that is the problem. I have an original audigy platinum and I can record for hours on end without the slightest skip, and hte quality is the same as what came out of my records.

Sorry not sure about what do do about ur mp3 player...

I've seen some soundcards with RCA line in and minijack line in.

is there a difference in the quality?

i have a CREATIVE EXTIGHY (external) sound card!
you are best to buy dedicated sound cards for good recording etc.
or the newest mother boards (mainboard), they have good chipsets now!
