ok first off, this question should really be put in the production forum as ableton is an audio sequencer and not an actual Djing program.

as for your question, ableton will have no beatmatching abilities whatsoever, it does have tempo control, but it wil not be able to compare 2 sources and line them up for u.

when you are talking about using traktor and ableton at the same time with dual monitors i assume you mean PC monitors and not booth monitors. and to answer your question, yes you can under 2 cirsumstances. 1. make sure your comupter can handle the work load, the last thing you want is to lock up or crash your system from putting too much of a strain on it during a gig. 2. make sure you have the hardware wired up right.

as for actually setting this whole thing up hardware wise, im assuming you have a DJ mixer and a couple TTs and finalscratch. so the easiest and most efficient way will be to set up your TTs and FS box the way you normally would and run your audiofile box through your effects loop. taking the effects send from your mixer to the input on the firewire, and the output from the firewire to the return on your mixer. it would help to know what kind of mixer you have because not all of them have FX loops.

once you have this done, you can send the audio from any channel (TT, CDJ, FS, whatever) to ableton, record (sample) it, and play it back using any effects you want.

The best way to get Ableton to line up with the music playing out is using a MIDI clock signal. A mixer with this built in would make you life easy (Ecler Nuo-5) but you can probobly find another way to get a MIDI clock going and matched up with your records.

Not trying to be an ass here, but you don't consider G&D DJ's? They only use ableton now if my sources are correct.

And I wasn't talking about using it as a sequencer, I was talking about it in the context of it being an effects machine .

id correct his statement so it reads:

"ableton is a live audio sequencer and not an actual Djing program."

it wasn't designed to simply mix records with, but you can with the warping features to get tracks lined up. or if you are sasha just get the .wav files from the producer heh

so if I'm using a Xone 92...I can use the midi clock button to send my desired BPm to Ableton and it'll adjust the tempo of the samples I'm using accordingly?

The thing is these guys are not just using one WAV file for the song, they have one for the bassline, another for the drums, another for the lead, etc. It makes it basically impossible for bedroom DJs to replicate it (using mainstream songs).

josh gabriel was telling me thats is really easy to mix with ableton, it just takes some time to get used to it (like everything of course)
and if they are djs or not.....well technology DOES move forward...so sasha cant be a dj now coz he is using ableton? same goes for j00f and armin....

That is true, but I don't think he gets them for every track he plays. So he probably has a team of people cut up the track into bars (or whatever seems logical). I have been trying to do this strategy. It takes a lot of time but its worth it, plus I don't have a team of people helping me out. What I have been doing is (example):

intro - 1 bar
intro (beat) - 3 bars
intro (beat-end) - 1 bar
intro (break) - 1/2 bar
core (beat) - 1 bar
core (all) - 60 bars
break 1 - 1 bar
break 2 - 2 bars
end (beat) - 1 bar
end (beat-end) - 1 bar

Some are used as loops (all the ones with (beat)) and others are just played out after being triggered manually or with using the ableton function: Follow Action. This way is really fun to dj with, but is very time consuming to cut all your tracks up!
