So this last weekend I was DJing for a going away party for one of my friends... it was at the beach and it was announced on the radio. We had two 300W converters with two cars to plug them into... it was good enough to have a nice loud sound. I felt I did really well... in the 2 hours or so that I was DJing before the party got broken up by the cops I only made one mistake and it was minor... nobody noticed.

But this brings me to my point: I was so nervous because I didn't want anything to happen to my equipment! I had almost 2K worth of equipment on that beach... I didn't want to get sand in it, I didn't want it to rain... and most of all I didn't want some druggy getting any bright ideas or falling onto my equipment... I had it in a desk setup in the door of a tent with a LED light on the top... it was a decent setup. But still, I felt like I needed security around. I hadn't realized how much of a major issue it really is to have a safe enviroment for your stuff...

oh yea, its the first thing on my mind when I am using my own equipment. I never get too drunk that I have to pass out or leave....always stay the entire time...and if possible put things in the way so no one is standing next to your stuff.

I NEVER use my own equipment to play anywhere else. If somebody wants me to play on his/her party, they have to make sure there is some decent equipment. I won't ever drag my own equipment around, it's way too expensive...

helpful tip if it's your equipment being used at an unauthorised party.

draw up a contract with a friend who isn't going to be there, stating that you have borrowed the equipment from them, essentially hiring the equipment. that way, if the police end up confiscating equipment, they can't keep it.

Yeah, I seen a full bottle of bud light rock back and forth on a crate sitting above my pioneer 500 before. It all happened in seconds, and its like it happened in slow motion. I screamed at the top of my lungs over the music, and the guy grabbed it just in time before it dumped all over my mixer. Needless to say, I almost died of a heart attack right there. Right after that, I ended up cutting the music, and went over the prices of all my equipment with that selfcentered asshole, just to let him know the severe assbeating he would recieve if anything got damaged. Some people just do not give 2 shits about anyone eles stuff! But anyway, I can relate to the person that started this topic. It does seem hard to get really into your set when all you think about is the well being of your stuff. When using my own equipment, I try to throw parties with a good group of people, and try to keep it as legal as I possibly can. That way if something goes down, it hopefully wont fall on me, and if you get with the right group of people they will look after your stuff like it was their own.
