God's of Spin

Not to make waves or anything or put any of the major DJ's in all genre's down, but can we save the GOD like references to the artists that actually write, record, produce the music and not just mix a 130+ b.p.m. song into another!

As I am virtually new to this scene I was hoping this thread would not start any wars, however point me into the right direction as to which DJ/Artist actually credit themselves with the aformentioned tasks of writing the songs, recording the notes (midi), Producing the song etc.
or what the process actually is!

Don't get me wrong, my mouth has dropped in awe at several events at some of what I have heard. It just makes me wonder sometimes who should get the credit for that feeling.

Discuss / Talk amongst yourselves! lol

I can see this thread turning horribly wrong in a few posts....

I would agree that the producers don't get half of the recognition they deserve.

Let's please all keep in Mind RJ"s thread on TA Common Courtesy and respect each others opinions with some class!

My purpose with this thread is to get some musical direction into how the music is actually created NOT who or what Genre is better!

It really depends on the DJ. Some are just glorified jukeboxes with good marketing and connections. Others have insane technical skills; still others use production software and hardware to enhance their collections; and then there are also the DJs that spend ridiculous amounts of hours in record shops all over the world searching for the most obscure tracks.

I'd agree that on the whole, DJs are given way too much credit (trance DJs in particular), but some of them actually do deserve it.

it depends on how you look at it....

Technical Dj Skills (beatmatching, cueing etc) - Armin and Tiesto fail miserably at this section

Track selection - some djs have great track selection abilitys and others stink at it...

Origional Productions - blank and jones are amazing producers but they are just average behind the decks, they spin great sets, but i have heard way better dj's technically. but they can still beat match better than tiesto and armin

Remixes - some producers work better remixing other tracks tahn composing their own, but they always add their twist on it.. so that gives them credit in my books.

what he said...

some DJs are way beyond just DJing... they're technical geniuses, they know the equipment they use inside and out (and no, not just talking about turntables and mixers, but sound processors, effect processors, sound systems and custom sound setups, etc). And yes, some of them spend way too much time in record shops looking for those gems. You gotta give those guys some credit.
