i got a review! i got a review!!
ok, so i got there at 9:30 and the place was EMPTY- mind you it was supposed to start at 7:30 (but judging from that i figured it would star around 9:30) i was like
little by little, the weirdo east villagers, all the midnight shadow-stubble, rectangular spectacles wearing their 'vintage' curdoroy blazers on top of their green zipper hoodies showed up, 2 by 2, until you could barely maneuver through the crowds. heh.
the DJ was wearing a chinese outfit, complete with the peasant hat
(see here: http://www.asianideas.com/peasanthat.html). he was playing a mixture of good, melodic electro stuff but also mixed up hip hop like the Tootsie Roll song.. wtf?? i was befuddled. tho it brought back some good elementary school memories lol.
montak started up, a french-canadian dude from montreal whose music, i think, was interesting, well-producing but way too "Air" for me...too poppy-cheesy and the lyrics were awful...and besides the fact that the dude can't sing (tho i respect him for hitting up his moog, g4, keyboard, tambourine, maraccas, windchimes and mic sometimes 1 after another after another), the sound system was anything but up to par. the midrange was so compressed, you could barely hear his voice or any of the beautiful chords arranged around (middle) c major. his music was a bit too happy/whimsical for me, tho i liked his electro edge. talented.
ulrich came running thru the crowd onto the stage- what a weird lookin guy nice features, but he has a monk-bob of a haircut lol. he was so nervous at first, sweating and shit because it seemed as tho his laptop froze up. so he called out to the dj "eh, can vee please play anozza zong ya?" LOL. pretty funny. after 3-4 minutes, he was on...very dramatic-ambient opening song. don't ask me what it was, i can't tell you. he did play On My Own (involver anyone?) which was GREAT. good vibe from the crowd, too. he didn't play many songs, mostly because each song he did slam out on his keyboard was 10 minutes long...so he ended at midnight. the highs were hurting my ears, the speakers were so bad. so it was great but too bad the sound system couldn't do ulrich justice
you guys have to come see him next month @ bowery ballroom! he seriously goes jerry lewis on his keyboard, it was insane just watching it- kinda like a modern day liberace!

Nice review young lady.
Happy that I didn't attend this knowing now he's set to play the Bowery (a proper live music venue).
You both better be attending on the 14th.
