The 33/45 RPM has nothing to do with beatmatching. The reason that you can only get the beats to match for only 10 sec. is because they are not 100% matched. This takes alot of practice and training yourself to listen to two things at once.
Some tips: practice with records that are similar and of the same genre, make sure they have nice long intros and outros. Also when you get the records close, make very small adjustments to the pitch.

the speed that the record is playing doesn't matter. In order to beat mix they have to be at very simular TEMPOS. I have a lot of records that play at different RPM's but still beatmix together well.
