My first recorded mix...please go easy on me!!
Ok so I'm finally starting to get my beatmatching down and felt comfortable enough to try and record a small half hour set. Please check it out and tell me what you think.
I know its not great but I was happy with most of it. Some of the transitions I felt were pretty bad, but hopefully I'm just being hard on myself (which is a good thing!!) Hook me up with some criticism (good or bad!) about anything (transitions, track selection, recording quality, etc)
FYI - 32MB file
tracklist:
Ave Mea - In The End
COnjure One - Center of the Sun (Junkie XL)
Yellow Blackboard - Superfly (Andy Moor Mix)
Kyau vs. Albert - Made of Sun (Kva Hard Dub)
Gabriel & Dresden - Arcadia (Ozgur Can Remix)
Also I noticed that it seems muffled some, gonna have to look into that, must be something in SoundForge that's not quite right.

okay, i just listened to it. I think you did a good job. especially for your first publicly posted mix.
how long have you been playing for?
i think your beatmatching is pretty good, obviously it wasn't perfectly on in some parts, but it was nothing that made me grit my teeth. I liked your tracks and your style. I think you're doing just fine....
good stuff.

Where's the Hip-Hop/RAP mix you've been working on?

You BASTARD!!! I'm jealous. You're so freaking far ahead of me now. I think I know the problem with Sound Forge for this and I can tinker with it the next time I'm in College Station. Did you do this using the Serato setup?

Thanks guys. I think I've had my decks for about 6 months, but I really didn't starting playing them alot until these past few months. There are some rough spots where it wasn't exactly where I wanted it, I was wondering how noticable it was to everyone else. I also had a couple of phrasing issues. I also seem to have an issue where the cued track gain is hotter than when its live. Dunno what the deal is but it makes matching levels a little difficult - I'm guessing its just an issue with this mixer, may call Vestax about it and see. One other issue I seem to be fighting is not letting the tracks transition together long enough. I have to force myself to at least try and make it a minute with both songs.
GBM - Yeah it was done on Serato Scratch. I've got some vinyl coming in tomorrow that should add nicely to this. I think the SF issue is line input level related, I'm going to have to mess with that a little tonight and see if I can get that right. Oh I'm still working on my Hip Hop/Trance Mix stuff....I don't think the guy at Gatsby's is gonna let me play the trance stuff that I want to. So if I want to play in this town, gonna have to do what I can. Why do you think that mix is going to be called "Sell Out"??
