Crazy laptop
Hey guys, you prolly wont believe me but check it out....
I finally got the famous 'Y cable' to do my first recording, so I plug it in the line in and put it into the back of my 707.
I feed some sound through and realize it is using the microphone to record. I get stuck for about ten minutes, then out of pure frustration I plug it in the microphone socket and it suddenly starts recording normally.
now who can explain that, is it my soundcard or what?

Sounds like your line in was disabled.
Got to windows volume control, change option to recording, then make sure line in is active and ALL other inputs are muted.

the line in jack will give you better qualtiy than the mic jack.
go into your control panel and click sounds and audio devices.
go to the tab that says audio, and make sure the recording device is line in.

ahhh now ive got a problem like, this, used to be able to mix via the mic to my mate down msn messenger on my old comp, since then ive got a laptop and i try doing the same, but the levels are too loud. ive turned the mix volume right down on my sound properties on my comp too.
the output is coming from the record out on my mixer. originally on my comp i didnt have to turn the channel gains right down, but now i do, any ideas??

just slide the line in volume a little bit down. make it peak on ~ -3db perhaps /you can always normalize to 0 without the frustration of clipping/
