Fruity CPU Load

Has anybody got any ideas or tips to decrease the CPU load in fruity, apart from the obvious ones (don't use so many VSTi's, VST's)?

Use "smart disable" on the msot heavy plugins in the fx rack, and bounce tracks down to wav instead of having 20 synths loaded. I use multiple flp files when working on tracks. One for the leads, one for the pads, and one for the beat itself. (Kick&bass). Then I sequence the audioclips, making they loop perfectly. It may be a troblesome way to do it, but since my laptop is so weak, it's the only way I can properly work.

Thanks Beyer, that is VERY useful, but what does Smart Disable do exactly? I'm already using the Delta (M-Audio) ASIO driver. Is there anything in the setup that I might be missing? It is constantly jumping on me! My PC setup is as follows:

AMD Athlon 3000XP
1GB DDR 400 RAM
300GB SATA 150 HDD
Delta Audiophile 2496 Sound Card (ASIO Driver)
128MB Radeon 9550 Graphics Card
Evolution MK-461 Midi Controller

Any help woudl be much appreciated.

the smart disable basically shuts off any effects that haven't been used for something like 2 seconds. that way they dont take up cpu when the instruments they are applied to aren't playing.

Click here and it will smart disable all the FXes automaticly.
Will dramaticly decrease the CPU usage.

Also you may use something called FX Freeze.
I havent tried it out myself, but i recommend you to check it out because i've heard many many many positive comments on this program.

Do you know if there is a way you can somehow smart disable VST instruments in the playlist too?

Damn!! what is taking you so much CPU Power man! that is a great computer!!

Nothing compared to what I use, Pentium III of 1 Ghz, 512 PC100 RAM and 60 GB of HD.
Mine used to crash a lot before I did the following.

* Work a project in different flp files, one for the Intro, another for the break, and the last one for the climax and outro.

* Render to .wav those synths which you see take a lot of CPU power, like Pro-53 and Albino, if you use a lot of these, you can render the melodies you make with them and use the wav file instead of the VTSi plug in.

* Try to use one VST effect for multiple synths.
For example, you use a reverb preset, try to use it in VTSTi 1 and 2, instead of using a different reverb preset for each one of them.

* If you happen to have Wavelab or Soundforge or Cubase SX (any version). Render your final work, without any type of effects in the Master channel, and master the track in wav format in wavelab for example.

*Do not run several programs at the same time, like if you have Cubase SX 3 and Fruity Loops , then work in one at the time.

DAMN(too)! I agree with PDM! That computer is powerfull enough for 99% of audio applications, let alone with fruity loops.
A really usefull site for tweaking your pc specifically for music :
www.musicxp.net

The audio engine in FL is not that great (efficient), and it's a bit better in SX but I have recently swapped to Nuendo and the difference in CPU load was atounding! Nuendo has a much better audio engine and driver handing code.

Also go in to task manager before you load up any programs, and on the processes page, right click and "end process" on all the processes that are not critical. This will free up much more memory and processing power.

Make sure you are also doing all the usual PC maintenance stuff like regular disk cleanup, and disk defragment, not forgetting to remove all the programs you don't use. If all this still doesn't make your PC burn, then you're doing something wrong - especially with your set up!
