I've decided to buy me a jp-8080 synth but I can't seem to find any for sale. Do you guys have any good advice on where to find one. And how much a reasonable price is?
And also, do you know of any common problems with the synth that I should look out for?
why u want rack tho u should get the 8000 its got keys for around same price.

Aren't there any other differences than just the keys?
Is the JP-8000 easier to get hold of?
I don't know what I think about buying from ebay ... feels risky ... :-)

There are some minor changes. I _THINK_ that the JP8080 can be used as a vocoder, but not sure. I got a JP8000 myself, and when I read howtos on forums for the JP8080 I notice that there are some small differences.
Have you looked at spesifications on Rolands webpages?

Yes, it does have a vocoder but I believe 8000 does too. also, JP-8080 - 10 voices plus smart card slot (4MB, I think), jp-8000 8-voices, no smart card.
Anything under $475 is a good deal; I sold mine for $550. however, if I may make a suggestion... don't. don't get me wrong - it's not a bad synth but just widely overused and somewhat limited. plus occasional aliasing issues on some of the functions.
just my opinion.
oh, Armin also thinks so too. Tiesto disagrees and says he uses it on many of his tracks as his main synth.
just as comparisson: you can get virus A or nord rack for similar price. I bought a Nord Rack with 12 voice expansion/pcmcia card for $300. tho - to each his own and it's not a bad piece of gear.
Try searching sonic state classifieds. www.sonicstate.com

hmm ... always so difficult to decide what to buy ... :-)
I googled some for the nord lead 2 but I can't see if it has a nice supersaw oscillator or not ...
The idea with getting a jp8080 was to buy something that I've almost only seen positive reviews about. Also the nord lead seems easier to find used...

The Nord Lead isn't not capable of a supersaw oscillator.
In fact it is VERY hard to get supersaw like sound on the nord lead 1 and nord lead 2.
I haven't heard a clear and crispy supersaw out of it.
Of course you can detune some saws, experiment with pulse width.
But if you're after the supersaw DON'T buy a nord lead 1&2...

You should visit www.vendolin.se and www.tradera.se and try to find a JP-8080 or JP-8000 there. It's much more convenient to buy from Sweden..

Please compare the JP80x0 to that VST. I just want to say "You are teh suck", but I won't.
The VST only replicates the controllers. It doesn't sound much like the JP80x0. JP80x0 sounds about 10^1000 times better. If you like to argue on that I'll have to point you to rb2k1's soundset for JP80x0. The demo shows off some of the cool sounds the JP80x0 can create.

Buy Novation or Access Virus... this is the type of sound which will be used now. The JP sound has been used so many times!!!! I don't want to listen it anymore!!!!!
No originality.

Oh my... Seems like i'm the defender of JP80x0! :-P
Remember what kind of synth the JP is. It can be used in about 100 billion different ways. It's supersaw sound has been turned into a cliché, but that doesn't stop it from making cool sounds.
But, in a way DJule is right. I think Accsess is a good choice, not Novation. Tried it and don't like the sounds. It's also harder to use than the Accsess.
