Sincere question.

Ok guys,

First up I apologise for all the times that you must have seen this question asked but believe me I have used the search function and it doesn't give me what I am looking for.

I currently use

FL 5.0
z3ta+
FM7
Pro-53
Absynth
BBE Sonic Maximizer
And a whole hadful of other plugins and effects.

At this moment in time I am contenplating going with Reason 3 but what I want to know is if it's actually worth making the switch?
i.e. will it give me that pro sound?
I know it's achievable in FL but for overall features and sound is reason better?
Can I use VSTs with reason?

Many thanks
Nem

1]No, Reason3 won't let you use VsT Plugins.

2]About that 'pro' sound. Professional sounding tracks don't depend on the program you use for producing, it merely depends on yourself. It's all up to you to make your track have that 'professional' feel to it. EQ'ing, compressing, good fx like reverbs and delays and such, nice percussion, nice sounds, good build etc. etc. Neither Fruityloops, or Reason is better. It's you who has to work with the software. I work with Reason alot and I like it, but it just may not work for you, because you might not like it or something. Reason gets bashed alot lately, but Reason is very powerful in the right hands.

Cheers

Great answer, and I think I already know the answer just from that post.
I agree, it is mainly down to compression, eqing etc. not to mention choosing good sounds from the start.
I have decided to borrow Reason from a friend to see if it gives me what I'm looking for.

Thanks for the response.

Cheers

You spent all that money on those nice VSTs and you're willing to make the switch to Reason? I went the other way around.. If I were you, I'd stick with what you have.

There's many famous producers who uses FL Studio, there was a big thread here a little while ago. Search for it!
And you can get a pro sound in FL, but you have to tweak and play around a lot. Same goes for Reason. You don't magically get a pro sounds just by using Reason.

It's becoming clear.
I am aware that a lot of pros use FL and think the world of that software.
I guess I was just fishing for opinions.

I also just tried the demo, and whilst it's a pretty smart layout etc. I find that there are pros and cons with both.

PS
looking for a good compressor with sidechain ability. Prefferably cheap but good (Acknowledging that they don't allways go hand in hand). Currently using Endorphine which is good but no side chain.

1. Don't waste your time switching from FL to Reason. FL isn't the best in terms of sound quality, but it's better than Reason, and at least has some basic VST support. Cubase is the least expensive solution that's better than Fruity.

2. Compressors don't "feature" sidechaining - sidechaining is just a fancy word for applying an abnormally high amount of compression to a channel containing the kick and some other instrument, like a bassline. It's just a lazy man's envelope, and any old compressor is up to the challenge.

fl is more user friendly and have vst support, but IMO reasone have better and stronger overall sound and Reason's Redrum drum mashine is very good for drum programming...
for FL try T-racks as vst, best compressor i used...
you can emulate sidechaining with peak controller, search for old threads.

IMO, whatever difference in sound between the two is not worth the time and money that will go into making the transition. You may as well stick with Floops and the (very nice) VSTs that you have. Like almost everyone in this thread has said, the tools you use don't have as much of an effect on your sound as the skills you have. If you want proof, listen to Tyler C. - Elsewhere. That track was made entirely with stuff that came with Fruity Loops. Granted, that includes Sytrus, but it's still quite a thing.

I've worked from the beginning with FL and I still do. Just simply love it. I try'd switching to reason some time ago, but it was no good. If you're used to FL, stick to it. Reason is so much different than FL. If you've worked from the beginning with Reason you feel the same the other way around, and it's true that not the programm, software or hardware cr8 the tune.. you're the one that does. You just have to build you knowledge and experience, everyone starts at the bottom but climbs up with every tune the produce. And another tip: listen to other tracks and then I dont mean hearing it, but really listen to it. Listen to it's construction, the synths and percussion, imagine how you could create them. The best of luck with your Tunes, m8. Hope I/we helped you
