First thing you need to do is to properly mount your cartridge (which you probably have already done). Then take the tonearm and hold it while turning the counterweight counter-clockwise until your tonearm floats in mid-air by itself, parallel to the platter. Then rotate the little black ring until it reads 0. Now you have a deck with zero gram tracking force. Turn the whole counterweight clockwise until you get to a desired weight setting - for home use and a Stanton 680 series, 3g would be a good starting point.

ok, i've got the tone arm floating.. now which little ring do you mean to rotate? the one on the end of the tonearm? the one for anti aliasing or the big black one for height?

There's two rings at the end of the tonearm: the small black one with numbers which shows you how many grams of tracking force you have (NOT the anti-skating one), and the counterweight itself (which is a silver chunk of metal with the abovementioned ring on the front end). Turn the counterweight so the black ring is at '3'. Then set anti-skate to 3 as well (if you scratch, set it to '0') - if the needle starts jumping out towards the edge of the record, decrease your anti-skate until it doesn't jump anymore. Set your height so that the little yellow or blue plastic part on the front of the cartridge (where the needle comes out) is parallel to the record - usually '1' for thin felt slipmats.
