Can you have too many friends?

So what are your thoughts on this?

Is it possible that you just don't need to meet new people cuz you know too many already?

I have WAYYYY too many acquaintences....
I almost dread meeting new people, cuz thats more peoples names I gotta try to remember, or have to fudge remembering them down the road.

ha, that's funny because you pretty much have the most acquiantances of all the people i know. i feel bad for you sometimes because you come in say hi to everyone and then spend yout time saying bye. not time to have fun.

so the question remains, do these acquaintances make your life any better? or is it better to have a few very good friends?

+1 on too many acquaintances. I also suck at remembering names, especially when intoxicated.

But you know life is all about the relationships you maintain. Having your own merits obviously goes a long way, but in the end I've seen time and time again that it's not what you know, it's who you know that can really get you ahead in life.

yes,

there are true friends, and there are acquaintances that disappear faster than a bad dhirriah fart into thin air.

it's way better to have a few good friends. than 1000 acquaintances.
i hope spelling is correct for all the spelling police out there.

"You can never know too many people!"
My answer is No I don't think so.

One thing is to meet as acquaintances and a total other to make them your friends. I think when out at parties or big events....it is so warm and welcoming to know and greet many people and extend a smile or a hello (even if you fudge or cough while saying the name wrong) then to just walk around and get lost in the crowd after a few mere handshakes. Perhaps it's my warped view but I think I like making people feel like they matter and are important, even as acquaintances. FYI..sometimes those acquaintances can be a real pick-me-up when your feeling down
BTW...close friends usually understand if you couldn't say a personal goodbye in a crowded room.

So my solution to the goodbye dilemma "Nat" is to just locate yourself in a certain spot where more of your acquaintances and friends are and say loudly...."Goodbye Everyone". IMO if someone thinks it's rude... then they are pretentious and covetous to begin with...and not worthy of being regarded as a good friend...plus... you'll cut your goodbye time into less than half (Wewhooo, that's more time for you to find your car, rush home and find the comforts of a clean and safe washroom....j/k).

Of Course the only exception to not wanting to know too many people is if you have something to hide, are afraid of people or think people are out to use you (paranoid anyone?). If that's the case to begin with, don't be a TA...just end it now and walk away...hide...become a geeky hermit.

LOL...geeky hermits make good friends too... and they are great ppl when u need a computer fixed...cuz to them fixing it is a turn-on, and they'll do it for cheap...like $0

I LOVE people. They are truly the most fascinating, enjoyable thing to pursue that we have on this planet. I know a lot of people and I have a lot of friends but true, good, down n dirty, love you till the end friends are rare and those I treasure more than anything.

And I agree with bk - it's awesome being able to go to the club by myself and see 20-30 people I know. Makes you feel like you have this giant extended "family" that, while you might not know their middle name, you can still smile at and have fun with at shows. Sometimes, they become friends or even best friends. And my life has evolved so much in the past few years that I have groups of friends from all different stages. We were discussing this on DCS recently and someone posted this as a definition of friends you'll have in life:

Friends for a reason
Friends for the season
Friends till the end

I was actually thinking about this the other day. I don't think anyone can have too many acquaintances. But I do think a person can really only have so many real, true friends. Relationships take time and effort, and it's just not possible, or fair, to try to be a friend to everyone.

OMG Kris...I love this saying. Thanks babes... wish I was with you guys now... have a blast and wish the same for Ivan, Penny, Chris and Christine.

BTW...it's knowing people like kabelicious that makes learning and experiencing and growing more worthwhile. I mean where else would I find such a great quote from.

Since we are not all born genius' it is our acquaintances and friends that form and shape us. So you see--> it is worthwhile to have many friends....cuz if u limit them...then your cutting yourself short of being a great person.

Just my opin
