What does the word "dub" mean?! (like in "dub mix")
Hi,
Anybody knows what the word "dub" mean. As far as I know a dub mix is an instrumental (or with very few vocals) but where does that word come from and why is it used for instrumental tracks?! Anybody knows this?

take out the lyrics, harmony, melodies, percussion, and what you have on your hands now is a DUB!

no, my friend, that would be an instrumental.
a dub just uses a minimal amount of vocals, possibly just a line from the chorus, look up Pqm - You are sleeping (Luke Chable's Dub Pass)
it keeps the "you are sleeping" but the rest is gone. ydig?

Dub is characterized as a "version" of an existing song, typically emphasizing the drums and bass for a sound popular in local Sound Systems.

A dub mix usually is just another term for instrumental.
However, a good dub artist can manipulate the studio in such a way that music sounds like it has more depth to it. Dub fiddles with resonance in sound, making it a favorite for headphone and marijuana junkies.

Dub in this sense means many of the high frequencies are removed, which often includes vocals. A dub mix doesn't necessarily refer to vocals though, as there have been "dub mixes" of instrumental tracks released.
