Re: pitchmatching with cdj1000
Master tempo simply digitally slices up the audio, and either "compacts" or "stretches" it out to make the song slower or faster. When you have the tempo (note I'm not using the term "pitch control") set at +2%, the song will be 2% faster regardless if master tempo is engaged or not. The difference is that with master tempo enabled, the KEY of the track will not sound any different than if the tempo were at 0%.
So what you want to do is speed up the song, and then change the KEY independantly? The CDJ's don't do that, but some effect units have key adjust (my DN-X1500 mixer does).
I'm confused as to what you are asking exactly. It IS a little consuing at first when you make adjustments and you can't really hear them with master tempo enabled.

so when i got the cdjs, i thought that the master tempo would work at any pitch, but it turns out i was wrong. when i hit the master tempo, the pitch would get locked into its original pitch. that leaves me with slowily adjusting the speed of the currently playing song until its pitch matches the master pitch of the next song that i want to mix in.
any thoughts on slowly speeding up or slowing down a song while its playing?
this also means that i cant pitch match the next song since this second song is already locked... perhaps this is a good use for three cdjs?? i just like how in traktor i could change the pitch and tempo independently while the other does nto have to be locked.
i want to hear thoughts and comments and opinons on this topic, thanks |

Yes it DOES work in 100% mode. Try it! You can make some cool (albeit cheesy) effects that way.

sorry about the confusion... its kinda hard to explain
ok so everyone knows you cant change pitch and tempo independently..meaning, everytime you engage the master tempo, the pitch will be locked to its original pitch when played at 0% only, regardless of where the pitch fader was when you hit the master tempo button.
say i have song A playing, and i am cuing in song B. Song B woudl go really well with song A except that when beatmatched, the pitch is all off. so what i did, was gradually slow down [in this case] song A until its pitch matched with song B when the master tempo on song B is turned on. then i beatmatch song B and pop out a nice harmonic mix.
it was not realy a question... i wanted to see if people do this, or what people thought about having to mess with a song that is playing [song A], especailly slowing it down while people are listening. it can be done without anyone noticing but then... i donno. just wondering what peoples thoughts where becuase i generally dont like to mess with a song that other people can hear. is there a better way to do this?
now my second little rant is... say i have song B playing now, it is locked in master tempo. unless there is something i dont know, i do not see how i can both beatmatch and pitchmatch the next song if i have no control of the pich of song B. this means, i have song C, and it would go with song B but its just alittle off pitch both with and without master tempo. so theres nothing i can do right?
forget the third cdj statement...that was a dumb idea.
people are saying they dont use it which is fine.. the point if this thread is to find out everything that i can about these cdjs that i paid for. so atleast i can use it to its fullest potential, or atleast get my full moneys worth... or just for the sake of knowing.

Depends on what you spin I guess. I like it because if you have to make adjustments (which WILL happen, regardless how good you think you are), they aren't easy to hear.

What i do its high up the pitch generally eveyr 16 beats, it depends on the track, or thetiem left to start mixing thew next song.
For Example
I haave song A at 128 bpm, but i wanna raise the bpm to 130, because the song B (it's Orignally 132 BPM), I always try to keep the percentage of +/- BPM the same in both tracks when they are far form orignal Bpms.
ok so let's say I have 5 minutes remaining of the song A, I will add + 0.1 every 16 beats, untill i reach 130 BPM, and its not noticeable regardless the Key is locked or not. If I had 10 minutes remaining, then i could take it to higher +0.1 each 32 beats, and if ther eis almost not ime, I could high it up +0.1 each 8 beats, but this las tits just in case of emergency and lack of time beacuise the song A is finishing, i think this las tone its alittle noticeable, but the 16 works really great, and gives and uplifting experience without noticing the changes.
This I try it using traktor DJ Studio, But I think it might work also on the Cdj's.

chekc htis out Here is a Mix that I made using this technique, if you ar einterested.
http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...ight=%22pepa%22
here is a ocmment about someone who take a listen, and what it makes special the mix, its this technique i think, coz almost all tracks well far form bpm, and i stayed almost the whole mix adding litte raise up points of bpm, it starts at about 127 bpm i think and reack its peak at 140. (All Tracks were Key Unlocked).

My overall impression: very very nice.
To be honest, wasn't going to try to DL it again but did so because you PM'ed me. When i listened to the first track i thought the set was going to be rehash of old tracks. When i listened to second and third track i thought the whole set was going to be chill stuff, which is OK, but its stuff i'm not really into. I was so wrong tho in thinking that.
After the third track, the tempo picks up nicely with each track and reachs a cresendo only to be let down gently with P.O.S.
If i had to compare this set, i would compare it to a gradual ascent into the air, much like a plane taking flight. It seems like you took care in selecting the tracks and avoided making a set that is a hodgepodge of tracks that are beat-matched. I've listened to several of these tracks before but they never really stood out before. This is special. I like it so much that its going in my sig for while.
I highly recommend this.
