ORLANDO -- Four employees were arrested Thursday night at the Red Square Lounge in downtown Orlando, where authorities said drugs were being sold and distributed.
Lt. Larry Zwieg, narcotics commander for the Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation, said about 50 officers and agents from MBI, the Orlando Police Department, the Orange County Sheriff's Office and the Florida Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco raided the bar and two residences, all the result of a six-month investigation.
The police said bar employees were selling and distributing drugs -- such as Ecstasy, cocaine, marijuana and GHB -- in the lounge. They arrested two of those involved a few weeks ago, Zwieg said, after "doing some drug deals with them." Of eight warrants issued, three were for patrons.
The investigation began after a female customer filed a complaint in November saying employee Daryl "Byrd" Bartsch had slipped GHB, the so-called "date-rape drug," into her drink, Zwieg said. She told police she woke up the next morning in Bartsch's apartment, Zwieg said.
"We had undercover agents come in here, and it was wide open," he said, adding that agents bought drugs in the Red Square on 24 separate occasions.
Agents from the Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco have revoked the lounge's license.
