Just got a pair of CDJ 200s to add to my setup (1200M3D + 3 channel numark mixer). Anyway, i spent a good $50 downloading tracks from beatport and ripping some of my vinyl and dumping them on a single disc and here are my problems with the CDJ..

1. The platter is waaay too sensitive. if i push the platter 1/8 turn, you can hear an audible bend, but worse off-- i can't help but over correcting. The only way to get the find adjustments is my moving the platter say a millimeter around.. why did pioneer do this?? The manual says thats its +/- 20%.. is it just me, or should this be maybe +/- 2% or 5%? For house and trance mixing, you'd think they'd have the option of how much the wheel will speed up/down the track? Any suggestions/fixes for this??

2. These guys didn't think of pitch bend buttons.. they might seem redundant given the cool blue wheel, but what do you guys do when you're in an effect like the WAH and you have it on HOLD so you can cut off all low frequencies.. then you realize 20 seconds into your mix that you need to do some small adjustments??

what makes me mad is that it takes so long to get a perfect beat matched on these damn CD.. where on vinyl its 20-30 seconds IF THAT.. and then again correcting on vinyl is so much easier/precise.. ahhhh

WEll I was thinking about the 800s but wanted the mp3 support for the CDJ200s.. I think i'd be burning audio CDs all week to cover all the tracks that i need in CD format. instead i just burnt 3 mp3 CDs and duplicated each one so i can go between tracks on the same CD. took about 30 mins total

Yeah just like my pioneer dmp-555, that touchy platter for bending made me get rid of it. It's probably the same deck as the cdj-200.

Can you get any returns? The CDJ800 is way better imo.

Or you should check out the cdx. It's big, but it felt pretty good and it does play mp3s. Or check out denon's offerings.

probably just takes practice... you cant feel anything like with vinyl

i would guess that the platter is also speed sensitive... have you tried just turning it slowly?

no.. no returns unforunately.. I got them for $300 ea incl tax from a local guy so I doubt I can return it, considering MRSP is $499 and MAP is $399. Apparently anyone selling below $399 is not an 'authorized pioneer dealer' whatever the hell that means..

Anyway, ya, the platter is speed sensitive so if i rotate it very slowly it's fine. i'm getting used to pushing it just a tiny bit but it seems too delicate. I kinnda like the numark CDN series where you can literally spin the damn wheel for a pitch bend.. hopefully pioneer will release a firmware for this?? i dunno.. maybe tahts just wishful thinking?

Is the CDJ 800's platter any better?

dont worry about it you will get used to it, its hard to tell what your definition of sensitivity is. i have the mk2s and i think its fine but i did have a friend over the other day who was totally overcorrecting... she got very frustrated and shes been spinning for much longer than i have... about 7+ years

just give it some time

the platter on the 800's is exactly the same as the one on the 1000's so yeah it's got to be better than any others

Personally I feel much more comfortable on pioneer decks precisely because of the feel of the platters

my ever present argument about 200 vs. 800 revovles around this point, i'd imagine the 200s wheel works exactly like the 100s wheel, which is not good....

None of the pioneers have the pitch bend buttons as far as I know... I think they should add them, for tiny adjustments they work great on the Denons. It's much easier to tap the + or - really quick to just nudge the track a tad. Using the wheel you can overcorrect very easily.

consider the size of the wheel on the 200, it's small..which means the ammount of movement (touch) it takes to do a small correction is significantly less than on a tt, or the 800 or the 1000...

ifyou don't like the wheel return them, best bet...or sell them..i'm sure you can seel them for the same price you bought them for or close anyhow...get yourself the 800 or 1000mk2 (if you can afford to)...or if you wnat your mp3 format and pitch bent...get the denon 3000 or 5000...

whatever you do don't get the denon 1000, wheel is very small and very inaccurate.
