Same goes for my town in england, local record stores are full of R&B and thats about it, and thats a big hmv store aswell. So when i go record shopping now i do it all online, its cheaper and wide selection, I always chemical records (http://www.chemical-records.co.uk).

I reallize that this question may not have an answer as the EDM in the US is hardly popular, but well, there has to be something. Thanks

living in a small town in north california means i have similar woes, but head down to san francisco/bay area and finding the more obscure material is a little easier. urban areas do tend to have more variety.

I'm sure there are great record stores other places, but in the Detroit area there are a few, but they don't sell trance or prog imports. It's mostly home grown techno (detroit techno), hip hop, r&b, pop or disco/house. Online is the only way to get them, and it isn't cheap, and you have to wait a few weeks to months after their initial release...which sucks.

Go to any "Sam Goody" store... all the CD's are under "Techno"

A lot of the major music distributors like Best Buy, Circuit City, Sam Goody and so on are good and keep up to date but that is only when they get their shipments. For example, the Ferry Corsten section has been empty for 3 months when I went in there until his new cd came out. But of course those cheesey techno compilations are always kept in stock at all times.

Here's a better question, where the hell do people get the vinyls in the US? Ive had to do it all online and sometimes it's annoying. Although beatport is nice becuase of the sampling and downloads.
