does anyone know how to recover deleted files from harddrives that haven't been completely wiped?

Active@ UNDELETE is a pretty strong program that I've used a handful of time with varying degrees of success.

that's what I'm trying to get now. rather not have to buy anything, just trying to get compromising pictures off a friend's computer.
