New Denon Cd Deck: S-3500

So Denon are just about to bring out a new CD deck... the S3500

Looks like the general idea is to improve on the S3000 (as the name suggests). In all fairness I didn't know the S3000 that well but the big thing that jumps out at me is that the platter now has 2.5kg/cm of torque... which means it might not feel quite so much like a 10 year old SoundLab belt-drive deck anymore...

Lets hope they do the same with the S5000 eh?

Here's the info: http://www.denondj.com/prodview_item.asp?pid=56&cid=1

Oh and they've also brought out some new rack mount mixers 'n' shit so you might wanna have a look at them while you're there. Full list of new products:

DN-S3500 - New Flagship CD/MP3 player, with Direct Drive inc 2.5 kg/cm of torque DN-X900 - Rackmount Mixer DN-X500 - Rackmount Mixer DN-HP1000 - High Performance Headphones

If its anything like the DN-S5000 id stay away from it.
The turning platter sucks and the pitch slider is just too sloppy.

It's platter is different from the s5000 and s3000, it uses a direct drive motor instead of belt drive like previous models. I wonder if you can now scratch mp3s like the pioneer dmp-555? But it indeed looks sexy. I should really get rid of my axis9 asap.

Sweet, theres also a dry/wet knob for the effects, also the seemless loop to sampler copy looks intresting as well.

There is numerous problems with the platter.
Fastening a real vinyl is to forget if you dont have a perfect vinyl that isnt one mm warped.
Getting a good grip to scratch is a biatch because of the cue point always slipping.
There is a rubberband mod but i havent been able to find any rubberbands that wide and besides,
if i buy a cd for alot of money, should i have to modify it?

If you turn off the platter movement the platter instead gets touch sensitive (which it really isnt when its moving)
so you cant scratch and let the tune go because of the slowdown that comes after you release the platter.

There is so many wrongs with that moving platter. Hope they fixed them all. And the pitch increment. And the sloppy pitch slider.

We'll just have to see how denon does this time around. It seems Numark is the only company that did a good job of mimicing actual vinyl w/ the cdx. Personally this isn't really that exciting for me. Im content w/ my ssl, and 3 1200s.

The s3500 looks good!
I'm the owner of both a s3000 and a s5000, and yeah, the platter ain't that good for scratching cause it's belt-driven. The s3500 with any luck will basically be a Numark CDX with a smaller platter (just with less torque)

so.. just out of curiousity, the s3000, 3500, and 5000 platters all spin? but the pioneer cdj-800's and 1000's don't??

I never really had a problem with the s5000 platter, but I wasnt expecting it to feel like vinyl anyway. Its an interface. Play with it for a bit and you get used to it. Damn fine decks in every other regard.
