fruty loops is a cheaper program yes, but when you use pro vst plug-ins, it becomes quite expensive
i personally would suggest cubase, it also has plug in support, but since you just started, wait a little and see how it goes first.
i believe there was a thread somewhere on this forum with a link for reason learning video, sort of watch and do thing. helped me a lot when i started with reason 2 years ago. remember, when you will move on into more serious production, you will need a program for mastering your tracks such as "wavelab3" and rewire your reason as a slave with other programs such as cubase, reaktor or what have you.
