Plenty of people buy decks that arent technics and r really happy with them the basic fact is technics r a complete rip off. If ur never gonna play in a club whats the point in buying technics 90% of peoples that own decks wont ever get to play in a club so why not buy a better cheaper alternative deck to the technics. |
so, if you don't play in a club, don't buy good gear and mix like shit? why buy Pioneer CDJ-100s or 200s, when you can have American Audio CDS-1s at a fractione of the price? they come with a great CUE delay feature, in which you press the pitch button and it takes it .4 seconds to start up, and now, with uberprecise +/-0.1% pitch increments, in ranges of +/-6%, +/-8% and +/-12%!!!
so what if you never play in a club? you should have good gear. if not, spinning just becomes a bitch. i learned on some Stanton STR8-80s. great pair to learn on, but after a year or so, they had shown their age and were becoming problematic. i'm not saying Techs are the only way, but most any other deck that can stand up to it is just as, if not more, expensive, so these 'cheaper alternative decks' aren't very... existent. the ones that are in fact, decent, and slightly under the Technics pricetag are beaten out completely by the Technics durability factor, where they still have to prove themselves against timeyou can save somewhere around $50US experimenting with a deck, or pay an extra $50 and get a completely sure thing. i'd rather invest once.
if you're not serious enough about spinning to buy decent stuff, you might as well just spin on your mates' stuff. that's what i've done till i can afford my own gear.
even if you don't wanna buy Techs because of the pricetag, you can get a 2nd hand pair for excellent price. you can buy 'em beat up, and fix them up. what you need is the motor to be in good shape, after that, you can change the pitch slider and all other stuff. in other words, you can buy a beat up one, make it back into the beauty it is, and might still get a better deal than the competing decks.
me? i spin CDs now... so i don't even know why i am here.
