Turning up the volume itself isn't necessarily the solution... EQing the parts differently is traditionally the drill in my books (then again, I'm not a long-time producer - prolly not even your status). Still, I liked it.
When I said maybe a vocal or two, I apologize if I'm trying to get things cliched. It was simply a comment along the lines of adding more quirky effects (anything from pads, additional percussion, to noises, to yes... vocals).
