I personally think it takes away the versitility of the empath. Suiting only long mix sessions for house djs, trance, drum n bass etc
i agree overall. instead of actually making a rotary version, it would serve rane better (save $$$'s) to make a rotary kit, that includes a new face plate.
but for us mixers, this is welcome change. at least for us mixers that only need 3channels.

If they made it upgradable to the original empath then that would be a wee bit more reasonable than making a whole new mixer for the rotary.

buying one as soon as they come out.
Maybe it makes it less versatile for you, but it makes it MORE versatile for me. Im will be coming from a rotary mixer with no fader, this will now alow me to do a whole lot more. Im very glad about this.
I dont think technically they could make an upgrade kit fit, thats why they didnt do it.

The knobs look cool, but are they as good as the P & G faders? Not sure why they would do this now.

Because there have been a whole bunch of people bothering them to do this for a long time. I know about 5 people already that are going to buy one as soon as they come out.. including myself

If I were to buy an Empath it would not be the rotary, but I'm sure other people will. What I like about the empath is it's versatility.

I guess, but that goes against how they advertise it as being a "scratch mixer." never understood why they would advertise it that way, as its perfect for smooth mixing, which is why I bought it.

thats not true actually... if you read their site they mention they aim it towards all styles.. but you have to look at it like this.. The fader empath is for scratch djs wanting a 3rd channel.. the empath rotary is for mix djs wanting a scratch fader.. 2 different niches.. hence the line is now more versatile.. there is no exclusion
you have 3 faders, and below each, a rotary knob. you can then switch between fader/knob functions, sort of as you do with CUE functions, you know, between stereo and mono split n stuff...

blah, nevermind me...
I hear what you are saying. I was thinking it would be cool to get a Denon DN-X1500 and do the rotary conversion on two of the channels and leave the other two as faders. Because of the matrix input you would be able to route any signal to your favorite channel with ease.
Just a thought I had that I will never really do...
