Read This! Important Electronic Music Producers Every TranceAddict Should Know

Is there a consensus on who are the most important electronic music producers? Suggest some.

Real persons not aliases PLEASE (if possible). I'll start and update this regularly, time permitting.

Juan Atkins
Juan Atkins truly is a legend in his own time. Appearing behind aliases such as Cybotron, Model 500 and Infiniti, he has released many classics of sublime Detroit techno, including the 1982 electro track "Clear". Recorded by Atkins and Rick Davis as Cybotron, this track is often considered the first proto-techno track. Experimenting with fusing the extra-terrestrial funk of Parliament Funkadelic with the futuristic rhythms and hard math of Kraftwerk and the progressive dance theorems proposed by Giorgio Moroder, the Model 500 12"s laid the blueprint for Detroit Techno. Along with the tracks made by two schoolmates from the grade below, Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson, Detroit Techno quickly made its way across the Atlantic and immediately sparked the emerging rave culture and soon after the entire global dance community. Moving through the later 80's as Model 500, Atkins continued as one of the most prolific and sought after producers of electronic music throughout the 90's, culminating in the use of an Atkins' original as the musical bed for the 2000 launch of the Ford Focus 'Detroit Techno' automobile. Juan joins Moby on the Area One tour, and then takes the road on a stateside Om Record's tour this summer.

Packing clubs from Detroit to NY to Venezuela, Juan has mastered the art of soaking up new rhythmic elements from contemporary dance music while keeping his unerring, instantly recognizable sense of melody intact. Much discussed and anthologized not only for his 20 years of production credit but also for his ability to rock a dance floor, Juan Atkins' music and DJing is deified in Europe and embraced all over the world. Juan has also been prolifically releasing albums, remixes and collaborations on Belgium's R&S Records, Germany's Tresor, and others. His six full-length releases are available only as imports. John 00 Fleming[b]

[b]Oliver Lieb

Frankfurt based producer Oliver Lieb was born in 1969 and as early as 1989 started to gain a reputation as one of the more productive and talented producers of electronic music. No matter if its Techno, House, Eurodance, Electro or just ”music electronics”, within the past fifteen years Oliver made his way into the prime league of international dance producers. (Discogs)

Charlie May

Derrick May
Sometime in the past, the future began. In 1987, a shrink-wrapped record titled, “Nude Photo,” started appearing on the shelves of a few idiosyncratic dance shops throughout Europe. The techno uprising was underway. The music sounded other-worldly: sub-aquatic basslines raced with hi-hats constructed from welding sparks. It was like listening to the liquid electricity of one man’s soul. Apart of the original Detroit “Holy Trinity” with Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson, Derrick took the Euro-electropop crystals of Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode and New Order beyond its own horizon, infusing it with house, experimental synthesizer work and just plain soul. Songs and albums like "Nude Photo", "Strings Of Life", "It Is What It Is", "Beginning", "Relics" and “Icon” run deeper than genre molds can grasp. Referred to as the "Miles Davis of Techno", Mr. May has worked with some of the most experimental and creative musical artists in the world, such as ABC, Depech Mode, Fine Young Cannibals and System 7. It’s time to line up for May-day in Fall. [URL=http://www.discogs.com/artist/Derrick+May](Discogs)

Caspar Pound
Massively influential producer, remixer, and label-boss of Rising High Records, Caspar Pound was a direct descendant of the famous and controversial poet Ezra Pound. Originally from Peterborough, he shot to fame at age 16 with the single 'Total Confusion', and then founded the Rising High and Sahko labels. As 'The Hypnotist' he became a star in Germany, and played at the Love Parade to thousands of ravers. He licensed the Harthouse label?@to the UK, pioneering German Trance music, a genre then unknown in the UK; and licensed Underground Resistance for their debut UK release. He also kickstarted the careers of many Electronica heroes from Mixmaster Morris to Luke Vibert.

Caspar Pound passed away at his home on 30 April 2004, age 33. Not from his struggle with brain cancer as is commonly reported but of complication resulting from an enlarged heart.
