Thumbs down Trance Record Shops In London

Hey guys,

Is it me or is Trance REALLY hard to find in London? It seems the good shops for it are either online only or in the midlands and upwards!

The best luck I seem to have is in places like Virgin and HMV ( :-( ) but even they are a pain in the a** cause the records aren't categorised properly often and they don't tend to let you use the decks without arriving with paper proving your address and ID in triplicate and your own needles.

I hope that someone can re-assure me, I'm kinda fed up of looking up shops that purport to sell Trance only to turn up and find Prog or Psy-trance. Don't get me wrong, I love these genres but I need TRANCE!

Beanolabub,

PS Anyone going to see Steve Morley at 414 for the Trance afterparty on Sunday morning?

HMV picadilly circus, has about 8 1210's, and pretty good selection of EDM. Never been asked for id there

Its very hard to actually run a profitable Record Shop, due to it being a niche sector of the Music Industry. For the best stock and availability and newest tracks, theirs 4 major webstores, all probably run from a central warehouse (with the exception of Chemical who have 2 shops too).

Run from a warehouse as they can keep running costs down to a minimum, with regards to Utility/Staffing bills and Taxes. Also to maintain such a massive amount of diverse stock, they need a location to suit their needs, hence the need for a warehouse.

Theirs only 2 shops im aware of that are actually as good as their webstores other than Chemical. 3Beat here in Liverpool, probably has the best upfront Progressive/House selection in the world actually in the shop itself. City16 also renowned for their House/Progressive has a shop in London too.

Mad Records in Soho are excellent for trance.

YES. Good for german/hard trance and have some funky house too. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable and no attitude problems (unlike other record stores where ive been stared at like an alien for asking the simplest of questions). Recommended.

Don't bother with Virgin Megastores, their collection is Rubbish as well as being anal about using their Turntables (ie bring your cartridge)

Theres 2 HMVs on Oxford Street, both carry similiar stock, like you'll find more Anjunabeats than A State of Trance,

HMV near Bond street station have 6 Tables, and the one closer to oxford circus have 2, trick is to arrive before 12pm to get on

Picadilly Circus carry a few rares and backcatalogues, I found Yvres - Born Slippy and Insigma - Avalon for example

Bottom line, its better to shop online because of what swisstoni said.

Or you can go digital and buy the entire Anjunabeats for maybe under £50

Cool yup

Yup you are right, there is very little in London now...

I gather Mad records are good, but am not going there much, I'm getting most of mine on the intergeek-apart from cheeky 2nd hand store visits which can often prove fruitful for promos.
