until i came to tranceaddict, i had never heard anyone say "im going to see such and such" unless they were referring to a concert. Ive noticed that here practically everyone says "im going to see (insert dj)"

Now, i am or the belief that you dont go to "see" a dj, you go to "hear" him. ive taken several inventories of this and the conclusion seems to be the same with the people i know.

Could this just be a reflection of the younger generation's facination with the pop and image aspects of DJ culture as opposed to the art itself?

but i really think it runs deeper than just a matter of speach. Ever since djing has been pop-afied (id say this started around 1999) ive heard this expression more and more.

I think it's a North American thing to be honest. More concerts I believe so people are used to that crazy stage presence.

I'm there to see the DJ and to feel the music. Of course I want crowd interaction because I love to see a DJ having fun, and rocking out to what they're playing and how the crowd is reacting.

However, above all, it's all about the music. If the music sucks, then he/she can hop around all night with a supermodel on his/her head for all I care.

I think the saying stems from the fact that when you go to an event or a concert, you expect to *see* the performer put on a good show. Putting on a good show, however, consists of a lot of things - the music, the sound, how interesting they are, etc etc.

I usually either say:

"Going to [name]"

"Going to see [name] spin"

[Going to see [name]" when I'm too lazy to say one extra word.

None of these really mean that I'm going just to *see* the DJ, but I would like to see them actually do their thing, and not be hidden away somewhere. Adds to the atmosphere imo.

P.S. While we're on the issue of seeing DJs, I gotta say I do not understand the girls who say Tiesto's hot. He's not good looking by a long shot (I'm saying this in the least homo way possible). And PVD looks like a whiny nerd kid.

P.S.S. I'm a newbie compared to you jay, so I have no idea what the people were saying back in the good ol days.
