Ok I know this is tranceaddict but one of my friends is going to have a house party in a month and pretty much everyone around here is all hip-hop/rap lovers. I can beatmatch pretty well with trance but I dont know so much about hip-hop.

What would be some good hip-hop songs to learn how to beatmatch with.

And arn't hip-hop songs breakbeat...?

yes all hip hop songs have broken beats. mixing hip hop isnt too hard, there isnt the necessity to beatmatch, simple x-fading works fine most of the time for amateurs doing a single gig.. you can scratch alot with transitions, and imo thats the only fun part of djing hip hop. good luck!

yea, simple radio fades will do just fine
as long as the track selection and flow are good, the crowd won't care much, if anything, they'll love you

another fun thing to do is lay an instrumental over the track that's already playing, and make a remix on the spot. then just beat juggle the album mix of the new track with the instrumental, and you have a nice little transition.

Isn't too hard? Try running different acapellas over an instrumental (in proper tempo), while sampling, scratcing and bringing in the next track all at once. An average pro hip-hop dj is ARGUABLY a lot more talented the average pro house/trance/prog dj. We're damn spoiled to be only concerned with eqs and pitch.

I disagree, ur comparing apples and oranges...

trance is more techincal, whilst hip hop is more creative.

I think if u go for one style long enough, u start to think ur type of music is easier, becasue u understand it more.

Even though lots of hip hop is breakbeat, I still beatmatch and barmatch, as with other genres. Since there usually aren't breakdowns to mix into, I transition very fast using the crossfader. Or sometimes cut from 4 beats from track A to 4 beats from track B, 4 from A, 4 from B and eventually completely cut over to B at the start of a phrase (if I can identify one).
