Smiley DJ Play The B Side

ive gone through my whole collection, and started to play the B-sides, that i havnt listened to in a long time
ie sometimes you ignore the 'other mix' when you have found a tune which is so good.
you might suprise yourself, cos it has a different take on the track, if its a remix, or a different production, ie playing amnesiac instead of remember (summer Sun)

instead of playing the side of the record you 'usually' play, play the B-side, which was somewhat overlooked, cos when you do a mix you can (in my opinion) really come up with something interesting and creative,

just some useless advice, which might help, lol

Agreed.

It's intresting to hear the different takes other producers have on a track. I almost never play the original, it's always lamer than at least one of the remixes.

and i play them aaaaaaallllll the time, so yeah i like them a lot

but i also feel like its good to at least know where this piece came from if nothing else

so id have to half and half agree to be honest

Before I buy or place in record bag I will listen to all mixes and decide on the one I like. I never buy a 12" based just on what the a-side is about. In a lot of cases I will even end up getting 12" because of another mix and may never even play the A-side ever.

A classic example of a B-side is Ferry's remix of adagio for strings. William Orbit version on the A, nice tune but you wouldn't play it out.

Another example of a good b-side is Afterburn's (Agnelli and Nelson) Winter Sun.

Buy a 12" because there is a good tune on it not because of the a-side alone. And don't not buy a track just because the A-side isn't good if there is a stonker on the b-side.

As was once said to me... there are only two types of music... good and bad.

Cheers
Nem

I totally agree, especially with the examples given thus far.

Sometimes my buddy will come over to my place and not bring his records with him. Instead, he'll play my records, but all b-sides and it sounds like a completely new set to me. There will be at least a couple of times throughout the set where I'll have to ask him what song it is because I love it, but have no idea what record he's playing =).

Other times, I'll be listening to a set and wonder what a certain song is called and when I look up the tracklist I find that it is a b-side to a vinyl I already own. The one example of this I can think of at the moment is Kyau vs. Albert - Falling Anywhere (the b-side to Made of Sun). Releases like this make it difficult for me to decide which song I like better so I can place it in the appropriate spot in my collection. Album samplers are even worse for this, but that's another topic altogether.
