Minimal

can someone explain what minimal (as in minimal techno..) means? I keep hearing the name and cant quite pin a sound to it. Are there any good sites that explain the history and give explanations of different dance music genres?

Minimal Techno is just a simple rhythm and some sound. Techno with a small number of different noises and much empty space in the track. From the editorial point of view, this is no interesting genre; one sentence is enough. But, musically this is interesting, because Minimal is so basic. One could compare it with the relation between the simplicity of a string quartet against the bombast of a big orchestra.

Atmos - Sonic Kipper
Shakta - Amazon
Source Unknown - Blond Sexy Doped Babes
Thomas Krome - Wood Carver (Adam Beyer Remix)
Ticon - Tekkno

and the following, only for hardcore minimlists:

vasyachkin: you're talking minimal psy trance.

minimal detroit techno is completely different. It's ACTUALLY VERY minimal. What they call "minimal" psy trance isn't actually even all that minimal, compared to say minimal techno at least. Now THAT is actually minimal. More like it's "Progressive" Psy Trance.

I'm sorry... Yes, of course, you're post was valid... I just wanted to make it clear to everyone that the use of the adjective "minimal" in describing Techno is quite different from the use of the word in describing some Psy Trance.

minimal techno = ambient (kinda)

seems like it to me, ive been a fan of ambient for a while now just because it is really simple and like background music for whatever. A good example is the cd: Sean Deason - Allegory & Metaphor

its way rad if youre into the whole "background chill" music.
