ok its still in D minor - bass goes D, F, C along a D minor scale. so if you wanted to mix it with keylock on, it will go into other tunes with the bassline playing in D.

dunno about the second - never heard it. no sample - no banannas.

Why Would D sound better with kelock on, and not in C or F?

its D minor because all minor scales in D step like:

step, half step, step, step, half step, step, step

note that in music theory with regards to scales - EVERYTHING is in relation to the root note. so in a scale from the root of D, the notes are different. this is partly how you figure out scales.

you can verify this by finding a piano VST and tinkling a few keys in a sequencer like the fl studio demo or something. its free.

play a D note as the song is playing and you have perfect consonance (sounds exactly 'right'). which im assuming is what you want in your mix.

How does that verify anything? In any case, that's not a whole tone scale - it's a major scale (the intervals between E-F and B-C are semitones).

I don't understand quite how you came to the conclusion that the track is in C major at all. I have listened to both the tracks and keyed them using a digital piano. They are both in D minor.

erf. i counted up from D wrong. you are right.

i know the difference between E/F and B/C are semi tones. but my brain just switched off when i counted up from D in minor key.

harmonic minor goes: step, half step, step, step, half step, step + half step, half step.

i just went D to Eb without thinking.
