[ Trance ] Takkra - First Contact

A track with mixed emotions , not what I usually do but I was in the mood for something more melodic.. and I tried to be original once again hehe ..
Just a raw build up so I havent really worked on the mixing.
But it would be nice to hear what you guys think of this.
btw, how can I get rid of this "amateuric sound" I seem to hear in all of my tracks .. can anyone tell me what it is maybe? please ?

hmm listening tot he track
intro isnt really good. could use some more... oomph?

interesting sounds. when the pluck(something) comes in it really breakes the atmosphere that thwere there first. but it kinda fits i think.
i think the bassline could be a bit more "pushing" and be fatter.
around the 2 minute mark i like the .. distorted sync something that comes in but the bassline still cuts a little.. i think.
at the 3 minute mark i like the synth/pad that comes in and gives the track a needed energy boost. around 4:20 the kick comes in but its barerly hearable? and with all the synths etc the bassline now fits! nice job on that one! well this tune just gets better and better from 4:20 and im really liking it here! i dont think this sounds amatuer like.. you should here my tracks!

great job!

hey thanks man .. its depends when you compare it to some people.. I mean if I compare my tracks to marco v or something.. my tracks always seem to have some sort of "sound" missing or something..
but hey thanks for your review

anyone else ?

hey takkra!

warning.. im not listening to this loud cos everyones asleep...

first thing i noticed was the kick yor using a much stronger one than you usually do..

nice little drum work. nice low snare. your drum choice is original.

bass synth is not quite 'phat ' enough. it sounds a little cheap and dry. add a nice bit of reverb or delay. then back it up with a sub bassline. melody is nice. very spacy. im not sure about that distorted guitar.

i think your work sounds original. i think maybe your synth choice could be modified but then it wouldnt be your style..

one thing i will say is that when you play your strings/pads/layers i would not quantise them. instead set the synth your using so it has a long attack. then play what you want by hand. a very heavily quantised synthy string melody has a habit of sounding amature. this method will sound more hand played.

the only other thing id do is add some reveb here and there to add some depth.

hope this doesnt sound too critical mate. i do like this track! but i kinda tried to answer your question here.. i reco just keep going the way your going.

rich

i think the reason marco v etc etc sound more pro is because of the mastering. it plays a major role in giving tracks a full sound. plus a helping hand from access viruses, jp8000 and nords always help. what software do you use?

hey rich, srry to reply so late.. school's very busy
ok this was just a raw build version but the ideas you gave me like phattening the bassline and adding sub-bass were very good idea's.
And im also very glad that you think my work's orgininal
definitly putting some work on the bassline and the strings!
thanks!

ok, listening and typing at the same time. im still on dial up internet (i know i know...im tryyying to afford broadband asap) so im streaming it bit by bit.

ok, the beginning is ok, feels a bit empty tho, maybe cause it needs to b mastered better...not sure about that stabbing drum that comes in at about 0.15 i rekon it needs a couple more drums to come in at same time, but thats just my personal opinion.

the synth that comes in at 1.22 sounds too plain...the delay makes certain parst overlap too much i think.

i like the guitar, how it mixes with the first synth melody-wise. after a while tho the guitar and synth alone gets a bit boring, and i think the guitar could have more reverb/delay in places.

the melody is unpredictable and original which is good.

at 3.13, the fat synth that comes in sounds a bit too much like the guitar, and their frequencies overlap quite a lot and theyre hard to make out. when the guitar ceases, the new synth sounds quite good, fat and full. i agree with rich in that u need a stronger base. in this section it sounds like the part of the track that has no base at all and you're just waiting for it to come in (waiting right from the start)

from 3.45 onwards like dj cola said, things all fall into place nicely. some of the synths could b EQed a bit for clarity but other than that this part is kool, nice melody.

5.16 i think the melody and other synths get muddled here...i like how u introduce the 1 line synth back in slowly at ~5.35

the white gentle noise that comes in is nice ambience.

thats all i have to say really. i liked it.

god this review is long...thats how long it took to download the track on dial up, hahahaha

ok kick is good also percs are good. didnt like that effect at 0:15 but it works well around 0:30. like the drop at 0:41 now the track becomes alive. then that annoying effect comes in again i think you should leave that before the drop and be done with it.

synth at 1:22 has a nice sound just a bit standard. if you used the same rhythm through a different preset it would be much nicer.

again another annoying sound at 2:17 hurts my ears. the drop at around 2:30 is good but lose that sound its like a blackboard being scraped. the sound at 3:12 is good when it plays by itself.

its a nice track just look at the presets your using and change them or tweak them to get nicer, less ear hurting sounds.
