Thanks for replying! I tried to make the set a bit progressive in the beginning and then slowly move to some faster paced trance. I also tried to harmonically mix the set with lower keys in the beginning and higher towards the end. But if that's what you think I'll have to work on my track selection then!

i hope i didnt discourage u too much, the progressive trance is not my preference exactly, here's some hints about trance
check out my mix - maybe it will give u some direction, its trance, here's the link:
Hehehe... Of course you didn't! In the end it's the negative critique thats helping you to get better. I'll check your trance mix out soon and let you know what I think.

Harmonic mixing is simply mixing together keys that do not clash. Any given minor key will mix harmonically with itself, the minor keys 5 and 7 semitones above and it's relative major (3 semitones above). Gradually moving through the keys from lower to higher root notes is a technique that is sometimes employed to gradually increase the energy of a mix or set. Therefore each transition wouldn't necessarily be harmonic but if you did this you wouldn't play adjacent melodies together (they'd sound awful).
Hehe, sweet. My background is in playing the piano and music theory prior to DJing so my key knowledge comes from that.
Yep, that's a harmonic mix. What I'd like to try and do one day (which is quite a bit harder to do well, I think) is to make a mix where the next tune is a semitone higher than the previous one (in terms of its key). So for example go Cm, Dbm, Dm etc.. Apparently this gives a sense of increasing energy but it's hard to do because all the tunes need just drums at the beginning or end so that your melodies never clash. Would be an interesting project, though.
