First, the positives: 2nd biggest crowd I'd seen at Austin Electronic show. Only PvD was bigger. Perhaps because it was 18+? People had come in from Houston & San Antonio. Even with the large crowd, the Sky bartenders are great. I never had to wait more than 4 minutes for a drink. Many people seemed to be having a great time, including the 95 pound dancing girl who accidentally hit me in the face with a vicious backswung elbow. I saw stars, & am debating whether I broke my nose. (hopefully just bruised). If you had a good time, I'm glad.
The negatives: ATB must have gotten hold of a book called "DJing for Dummies", filled with tips like:
Armin talks over Universal Religion
DFuse plays an electronic drum
Tiesto loves to play to the crowd
Josh Gabriel sings along
Paul van Dyk takes camera phone photos of the crowd
James Zabiela slows the beat down to a crawl
Oakenfold will play real old school Ibiza tracks
After ATB read DJing for Dummies & decided to rip off ALL of the schticks of the above DJs. Unfortunately, he has none of the talent of any of them. Painfully bad, to hear him holler "Let's hear it for the ladies!". & his idea of a build was to stop the music dead, then painfully eke out A BPM for a few minutes. & the drums....my cube mate tapping his pencil does a better job. His mixing could best be described as sub optimal, so bad I felt guilty when he dropped a track I did like (like "Noone on Earth"), cause it was so poorly done.
Am I glad I saw ATB for the first time? Yes, I'll see most people once.
Would I go see him again? Not unless I could play a drinking game for his ripoffs. & probably not even for that.

Oh well, most of the people that go to those shows wouldn't have even noticed...
I'm sure most of them would have rather have heard Rap.

I think the people who went to watch a top 10 DJ spin were disappointed but the people who went out to dance and have fun were more than satisfied.

Hey not all rap is bad. but on the flip side i have never been to a good rap concert most if not all of them sucked majorly. so uhh yea, but i'd still love to go to a Talib Kweli concert.

Since when are those goals (see a top 10 DJ & have fun) exclusive? I paid my $20 to dance & have fun. A good DJ is someone who selects good tracks, mixes them well, & reads the crowd. A bad DJ is someone who mixes poorly, stops the beat, breaks up the mood with bad track selection, & hollers intrusively over the music.
PS: Who the heck goes out to NOT have fun?

Sorry to be unclear.
What I meant was that the people who went expecting a good show from a top 10 DJ, AND HAVE FUN WHILE DOING THAT(e.g. seasoned TA's like yourself) were probably disappointed because ATB is not all that. But people who went out just to have fun and did not know much about DJ's and mixing(e.g. my friends who normally listen to rap) had a novel new experience and enjoyed it.
As for myself, I enjoyed the energy in the crowd and some old favourites like Chicane - Saltwater.
Dint mean to offend any of you. Just my 2 cents.

(1,2,1,2,1,2,3!! (mike check ?))
the positive thing about the night was that it WAS fun and i got to see my austin break dancing buddy and some other cat whoms name i forgot(sry !)

Aesop Rock was one of the best shows I've ever been to in my life.
