Monitor Sizes

Whats the difference between a 5" 6" 7" 8" 12" etc. moniter.

Does an increased size only mean it will go louder before distorting? Or what? Or does it affect the sound quality.

I ask because I am in the market for monitors, and all I am concerned about is sound quality, reliability, and price. I don't need anything that will go loud, as I have a hearing problem that makes me sensative to moderate to loud sounds. I just want nice quality sound.

Would KRK RP5s be alright?

If I had some KRK RP5s, and some KRK RP6s, or RP8s next to eachother, and listened to them at THE EXACT SAME decibal level, would there be much difference between them? If so, what sort of differences would someone notice?

Thanks.

Biger size cone isnt realy about the loudness but about the bass.
You should try do a search because their has been lots of descussion about moniters in the past.
When me n my dad went to get one of his old moniters re-coned the guy that does the repairs showed us the moniters he built himeself. My respone wow... He had 4 subs boxes and 4 midrange boxes (subs had 1 woofer and the mid boxes had 2 midrange woofers each) The quality was like nothing iv heard before and it was loud too. He said that its worh $1300 for half of it. I think.

Also i clicked on your sig and that damn song wont stop

Vlad asked this question a little while ago. Have a look here:

http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...threadid=306897

The thread piss-farts around at the start though.

Generally the bigger the cone size the lower the frequency range, but the shape & material of the cone also effects the sound. The shape generally effects how the waves are fired, which could be wide to narrow dispersion.

Ok, so from what I understand, 5" should be suitable for my needs.

So which would you choose between
KRK rp5
or
Event tr5

I know alot of it is personal opinion, but give me your opinion.

i'd look at a 6.5" cone 5" bass response is almost non-exsistant, and if you want an accurate representation of your song (or at least as close as possible) 5" won't cut it, of course u need to audition for yourself.

I have 5" and it works fine for me! I have the ESI nEar05 Experience, and I'm really happy with them. The talk about that there is hardly any bass in 5" is nonsens imo, at least not in ALL of them, cause the 05 Experience can show some great bass. One of the biggest factor when judgeing bass and such Is the acustics in the room you are listning, and where you stand in addition to the place your monitors are (Wich also Is very important). You should also look at the size of your room, cause the bigger to cone, the further back the bass will show.. I mean If you have a really small room (I mean from the monitors to the wall behind you), I wouldn't say it's suitable to have 8" or more. Anyway, I ain't no master at acustics and such, I just tell what I know about these thing.

I was thinking about the near05 experiences, but their website says they are "especially suited for vocal recording" this made me think they might not be best for electronic.

Get 5" cones in the mid range moniters and get a moniter sub.
There have been alot of tracks produced on TA that are great but the bass hasnt cut it because the producer probably didnt have something good enough to moniter the bass. Well thats just my thaughts.

Hmm, maybe so.. As I said, I have them myself and I produce electronic music and they fill my needs. It was actually Maor Levi who tiped me about these monitors, since he use them himself. I would say you should at least check them out.

i can't comment on the ESI speakers as i've never heard them...but after auditioning the likes of, event, krk, samsung, behringer, m-audio...i found 5" cones to be unsuitable to produce an accurate mix. I'm no audio engineer myself, but upon listening to very trusted songs and knowing particular elements that should be found, the bass on the 5" series did not produce an accurate interpretation of these frequencies.
