Returning To Trance

After 3 years out of trance, through progressive house, break beat, weird fusion stuff, jazz, classical, hip hop (not that guns n hoes shit thats called Pop or RnB), through the depths of Warp, Rephlex, Ninja Tune, Plug Research and Def Jux, picking up a whole lot of different music, including everything ever released by Squarepusher, Autechre, Aphex Twin and MF Doom, and having gotten into producing "Abstracted Logical Messes" i'm back...

...i've dusting of the old trance collection and regretted selling a lot of it, while being happy to have had the sense to hold on to System F - Into The Blue, 4 Strings - Into The Night and BT - Flaming June...

so what have i learnt? not to get bogged down in one genre... but also that there is simply NOTHING LIKE TRANCE TO MAKE YOU HAPPY!!!! I've also learnt that it really is addictive, it's not a joke... you only realise when you get out of it that you were actually addicted. And screw it all, just like all the drugs, i LIKE being addicted. Gives me focus.

Anyway, hi, i'm back. I hope they still make it like they did from '96 to '02

unfortunately no. trance just ain't the same these days.

which could be good or bad, depending on your tastes.

i agree though, why limit yourself to one genre or musical style?

Oh well, I guess if there isn't then i've gotta stop messing about in cubase, have a long hard listen to some of my favourite tracks, figure out the processing being used, just plain steal some solid leads and add a bit more order to what i'm making.

Then post it on here and have everyone laugh at my lame attempts ;D

this has really put a dampner on things... i was getting well happy listening to all the trance stash i found in the basement and thinking why did i ever leave, and remembering all the good times with this music... hmm i'll stick it out a bit, there's got to be good stuff out there somewhere... i got a recent James Holden mix CD which is great... but not exactly trance... i figured thats kinda what trance moved to...

Do it.

Check out the (top 2000 tracks of 2005) threads in the music discussion for names of popular tracks these days, and have a listen to a few of those to get an idea of where trance has evolved (or not evolved) to recently.

I've not listened to Luminary - Amsterdam (Smith & Pledger)yet, no download source yet...

but i have to say i had high hopes with Allure - The Loves We Lost
it was just watered down and over smoothed without any real substance... almost background music... tiesto used to be amazing ! what happened to tracks by Allure like 'When She Left' and 'We Ran At Dawn' and 'Kamaya Painters - Far From Over' you know the shit that gave you tingles down your spine even if you weren't just coming up from double dropping.

and Kuffdam & Plant - Summerdream (Orginal Mix).mp3 why is that featuring so much in the bit of the best tracks i looked through... i saw it like 5 times... but it's total crap.

I WILL FIND SOME GOOD STUFF it's always there... it's just not in the same places as it used to be.

btw, anyone know where i can get:

PvD Live at Home (year 2000 i think)
PvD Live at Mark Spoons Birthday Party
Tiesto Live At Club Eau 2nd Aniversery

I got them of this site ages ago actually...

@Stick to 303@ you mean stick to roland 303 synths?
I'm guessing some nick name take over? Anyway have fun stopping smoking i'm gonna go have a smoke.

You think sleeping only every other day is unhealthy?
