Review: Paul van Dyk @ ICE, Las Vegas 12/30/05

What a great party!

----------------------------------

I was really impressed by ICE. The atmosphere for the club was great, the people working there were very professional and they had really good club gear (decor, lights, CO2, DJ equip). Being that there are shootings in Vegas everyday, I was very surprised that no one was searched going in to the club. But all was well and mad props to this club for being such an acomdating venue. For those who have never been to ICE, the DJ booth is set pretty low, and flanked by short stairways where people can hang out on. Basically, patrons can surround the booth, making it very "intimate" between the DJ & the crowd.

I was also impressed that party-ers at ICE were very friendly and not the assholes you'll find at other PvD gigs. ICE was packed! I started my night at the top of the stairs right next to Jerry and the DJ booth, and you could see the density of people increase to the point where you could only see little heads everywhere. Even though walking was tough, no one was pushing, shoving or being dicks. Very cool. The females were sparse. Although this was expected, I thought being the party city vegas is, the ratio would have been better.

So the club was great, people were cool, and of course Paul brought his A-game. Paul rolled out at around 1:30ish and looked really fresh (sometimes, he looks like he's lacking sleep). The tunes played were very mainstream PvD and in PvD order. Playground and Nautical Imagery were played early. Beleive, Adrenaline, World in my Eyes, Other Side, CJ Stone, Summer Dream (paul's version), Tribal Trance, Dream Maker (me happy), Running Water (and more happy)...and the closers were TOOL, FAA and encore with Mind Circus. Track selection and mixxing was not really adventourous. but Paul also dropped the new U2 remix which I had never heard, and I thought it was dropped at a perfect time for that party. It was the chill out the crowd and you smile kinda song. Paul played for 3 hours (from a planned 2) until about 4:20. It was great!

oh and a review, I guess you guys start from the very begining. Well way back in 1980 a child was born. Then on Jan 30th 2005 he flew back from detroit to las vegas to see PVD. I got a pm about a meetup at hard rock..but I was still putting stuff away at like 10 so I couldn't make it. But I did roll up there at around 11 and the line was around the building....insane. Took about 1/2 hours to get in, and it was already pretty crowded in there.

Jerry Bonham was spinning, I had never heard of him, but he was playing some good tunes at a slow pace, round 130 er so bpms. And he threw in Hammer & Bennet - Language (santiago remixhaX!). weird thing was he was using it as an opening track at a slow pace, quite different than using it as a peak ch00n. still cool. The only thing I have to say about him was that he was all over the place. 2 or 3 good songs to dance to, then a few slow real prog tracks. So he was good.

Then PVD arrives fashionably late at around 1:20 er so. He started the first hour with songs I have no clue about...no ids...no nothing, but they were kick ass. I loved pretty much all of them. The crowd was eatting him up too, dancing...sweating...and all that jazz. He played crush, it had been soooo long since i heard that song...I got excited. He also played a bunch of his own stuff of course and Dogzilla - without you....love it.

and I was pumped he played all of santiago nino - believe, last time he mixed in a new track right before the breakdown....this time he let it roll....very nice.

He played til around 4 er so and then Faarsheed hopped on. I told him pvd and teh Jerry played all the good songs and he said he had a few good songs left he started off with mr fuzzy hair's remix of need to feel loved....that song kept the vibe going perfectly. followed by aftermath I believe....so he kept it going, but my muscles were screaming something different...I stayed til about 5 er so...lil after then headed out...wore out...

now Im waiting for lawler....open bar dude.
