Hi,



Is it possible i can link my kick and bass together so i can compress them together in a group...for example.



I have my kick assigned to fx 1 and i have equed and compressed it but i then want to link it to another channel, so when i have my bass assigned to fx 2 i want to link that to same channel as my kick.



Like so... KICK - FX1 - STEREO GROUP

BASS - FX2 - STEREO GROUP



is this possible?

When you click on FX Channel 2 (your bass) at the bottem it says OUT. This tells the host where to route that channel. By default they all route to the master channel, and the master to the sound card.

Anyways, simply route FX2 to pass through FX1. What i usually do though is route both to a third channel, because I dont want the bass to have the same EQ and compression as the kick. EQ and compress both seperately, then route them out to a third channel to compress them together. Dont get too crazy with the compression or it will get really tough to get the sound you want. Remember to eq out all the mud on your bassline around 150Hz to 300.

Down the bottom of the mixer where it says "out", make it output to another fx channel. Use the same channel for both the kick and the bass.

IE.

Kick->FX1->FX3
Bass->FX2->FX3

So fx3 has all your compressors and whatnot in them.

Theres no need for anyone else to reply to this thread or start flaming, let it die plz.

For FL6, it's different. You select the channel with your bass then right click near the bottom of the mixer on the track you want to send the audio to and choose 'route to this track only'. Do the same for your bass. To un-route channels, simply route them back to the master channel.

Hey. Routing in FLS6 is very easy to understand with some graphics here.


-Here, each of the channels, Kick, Bass and Kick+Bass are all routed into the master channel by default.


-Note these icons along the bottom. These are for routing. Go to first the kick channel and click once on on the icon in the master channel. Next go to the bass channel. Notice how the master icon for it is lit. Click that once as well so that both the kick and the bass channels are no longer routed to the master channel. Also note this means that neither channel will output anywhere and so you wont hear any sound out of these two channels for the time being.


-Next, click on the kick channel and then click on the icon beneath the kick+bass channel. You have now routed the kick channel into a new channel. Repeat this step for the bass channel.


-This last picture just shows how the final routing is set up. The kick and the bass channels dump out into the kick+bass channel and then the kick+bass channel dumps out into the master channel.

FLS6 allows for some very nice fairly advanced routing possibilities. One such instance could be that you want to have a single sound being processed 5 different ways. The new routing system also makes it so every single FX channel has the possibility to be a send. Have fun .

And darksword your the best mate thanks, FL6 is only buggy if you haven't paid for it, i haven't had no problems with my brought version, and i think he was saying there are minor bugs but there is only 2 left to sort out then there will be an update.

By the compressing together bit ive heard that the bass and kick sit tighter once they are compressed together kind of acts like a glue. I just wanted to give it a try.

Nah, you've caught it all wrong! Why not compress them in two different channels using the same compressor preset - another way of getting round it!

BTW, I never compress the kick and bass together - always seperately!
