PERSONAL REVIEW
His set started at 21:32 and finished at 03:32 (360 minutes exactly as advertised!).
It was basically the same show as in L.A. last August (I'm told), just with a different tracklist. I thought that the production was very impressive (at $500,000, it better be!), but I found the non-vocal performers (dancers, etc) distracting--in a bad way
The sound system was really good (for a non-audiophile).
Allegations of Tijs's trainwrecking are GREATLY exaggerated
The floor was packed most of the time, but a good 2/3 of the seats were empty!
The midnight countdown was over 1 minute late The midnight live performance of Just Be didn't sound too good from the concourse...
Getting in with ticket in hand took mere seconds; no searches
TAs present: AdictaAITrance, bluelimitd, clubheaven, eltomas, groovedaddy21, in2muzikk, julesla929, mar46017, nerdgrl416, pbo, rizen, RobertStern, sheffy, starboy, stefanoc, Trancelover24, tru-Mac, vondewey, wackadoo, zachzama, yours truly. Non-TA MySpacers present: Chet, ~*Dani*~, Derwin, NurseFeelGood (and her wheelchair-bound "patient" you all know from Spundae), YourNaughtyGirl. Others I didn't list, please speak up!
Got a chance to talk to Jes briefly backstage That was about the only good thing about the VIP package. Bar lines were really long; food was gone quickly (as was champagne at midnight--not that I care of course ); not enough seating; too cold compared to rest of arena; front-row seat to people being taken outside unconscious Not worth the extra $200 IMO, especially since GAs were allowed to get as close to the stage as VIPs (one half of the span of the stage each, and seats on both sides); not what the flyer said Plus, it wasn't too hard to squeeze by the old ladies guarding one of the 2 VIP entrances Oh, and the T-shirt was the one from the L.A. concert with only one size available (large)
After the end of the show, long wait for a taxi in the cold outside Orleans, and off to the after-hours parties: first Rubber with Matt Darey at the House of Blues (Mandalay Bay), then Spundae with Judge Jules at the Empire Ballroom (ex Utopia). I will start one new thread for those later this week if no one has beaten me to it by then.
On a more personal note, I guess I would have enjoyed the night more if I had had my closest clubbing friends there with me (instead of at Spundae in L.A.)... but as I look back, it was a really great night for trance music regardless I'm very happy this was the NYE event I chose to attend.
