mixpoints and phrases question

I've heard some mixes where a DJ might start mixing halfway into the second track (the record he is mixing into): how is this done after you have lined up the beats and phrases, do some DJs instead of finding the very first beat and throwing that into the first record (the record playing out), do they find the first beat of say the fourth phrase and mix from there?
Sorry if it sounds a bit confusing.

Sure you can do anything you want, as long as it sounds good. You'll probably want to be at the beginning of a phrase though.

it can be done by finding the first beat of the second phrase but starting the first beat one phrase earlier would be much easier, and produce the same result.

They are right you can mix in where ever you want , but ther's much more to it then that. Not only does it have to be beat matched it has to be phrased matched as well.. You dont neccesarily have to find the 4th.. You could find the 8th,16,24th,32nd , and so on..Trance is mainly 16 and 32 , but to mix things up i like to throw some stuff off the 4th.. I would recomend trying a variety of all to see what you prefer the most.

trust me, knowing your records counts dearly in this situation it allows you to know when it's right to do so when mixing in them situations.

not sure but if you listen to techno you will find that guys like oliver lieb mix in and out of tracks very quickly during the middle of a song, normaly because techno is used sometimes as a kind of music tool and is very repetitve so they create new grooves.

thats also why 3 turntables are handy! but i can manage with 2
