New Supersaw synth

Roland is going to release a new synth very soon, if they haven't allready done it. The SH-201 seems like a cheap version of the JP-8000. The nice thing is that it can be used as a VST through a USB cable.

looks like it's the successor of the SH32 which btw. sounds only far away like a JP-80X0 afaik it's a sample based synth..

and just to stop the supersaw hype.. you can get decent supersaws from software synths which could sound warmer, wider, .. than the one on the JP..

my supersaws doesn't come alot from my JP anymore.

Supersaws don't titillate me quite so much. I'm more interested in what exactly is supposed to be possible with that ext in and the d-beam.

The external in will give you subtractive synthesis from an external input. Theres a decent chance that theres some sample functionality there as well but my guess is that youll have access to the envelope, filter, LFO and such as well as the effects on the synth and youll be able to use them on direct input. There isnt really anything new there though. The D-beam is, in my opinion, a pretty damn nice controller for good organic feeling automation stuff. Basicly it has an infrared led and sensor and depending on how close you hand is to the led will determine how much light gets reflected back to the sensor, which in turn takes that voltage change (determined by brightness) and converts it to midi. It gives a different way of controlling stuff compared to standard knobs and sliders.

Cheers,
Zac

That looks pretty sweet! Hope it sounds as good as it looks.

The knobs are quite 303-esque.

USB Connectivity

Connect the SH-201 to a computer (Mac or PC) with one simple USB cable. Send and receive MIDI and audio through the USB port. Take advantage of the VSTi editing software that’s included with the SH-201 to manipulate sounds from your computer, and to save/organize patches remotely.

sounds like more buggy VIRUS TI style VSTi implentation ...I wonder if it works better
