Sad Lack of Trance in the Big Apple

As much as I enjoy goin on roadtrips to clubs in DC, RI, & Boston, it really bothers me that there isn't 1 club bringing Trance DJ's or even trance party like Gatecrasher. It's very upsetting this European Superstars are bypassing us on the way to Rhode Island & Boston.

The Vinyl saturday lineup isn't cutting it.

To compensate for the lack of parties, many of my friends from Twilo having started throwing parties & spinning at Leopard Lounge, Filter 14, Recess, Rubber Monkey, West 8th, Opium Den. That's all fine & dandy if u like prog & tech house.

The good news is my friend Victor Dinaire of Logic Records,(Logic 3000) & Entrance (Bonzai Records) is working on a trance party. Victor plays HARD trance= SICK! He is opening up for Carl Cox at Rise in Columbus, Ohio in March. He has a Trance classics compliation (for the newbies) coming out next month.

Anyhoo, I just needed to vent but I'm really excited about him having residency. I will let u know more as soon as things are finalized.

Wink Hey Twilogoddess:

I know exactly what you mean, a trance scene does not exist in NYC! I have been dj'ing for a short time now, and when I give out my demos, all promotors want is the usual house sounds...to me, house could get a little tiring and lacks the energy trance creates...anyhow, thats why I am trying to put my lil party together at the Velvet Lounge. I figured, if no one wants to hire a trance dj in NYC, i'll do the damn party myself...

Good luck to your friend and i definitely support what he's attempting to do for the NYC electronic music scene...

No trance in NYC

I totally agreee with both of you. Ever since I got back from spain last summer, i've been wondering why the capital of the world hasn't had the festivals or redic line-ups like in Europe. It seems that any club that opens, or gets renamed or whatever, in NY falls into the house/cheez house genre. NYC needs to roll back on zoning, and the 1920 laws that define and forbid places that have "three or more ppl moving in a sychronized pattern to music" without a license. If those that play at night would have a trance option, i know it would fill out, an if consistantly have the place rockin...those big time line-ups an DJs would not say no.

(sigh) man can dream, can't he?
