creative audigy & samples & sample rates

Okay . .

I ripped a sample from a cd in soundforge and to find out that I couldn't play it back because of the sample rate. So after searching around I guessed it was b/c of the drivers. So, am I right in understanding that every time I use a sample in any production software that it must be at 48 khz or 96 depending on which of the two creative drivers I use? Which in turn means I must always convert the sample rate every time? Likewise, will this happen to me when I use cubase, live etc... (I guess the answer is yes)

What about when recording a sample, say from a record, will that be effected too?

cheers for the help .. .

Yes, I know before the flames start, I should have never bought the dam creative. Please forgive that mistake and give me some help.

m.. .

Couple things...

Are you referring to khz... or kbps.....? if you actually ARE referring to khz, there shouldn't really be a reason to record above 44khz (and CERTAINLY not 96khz). It's possible your sound card isn't capable of playing anything higher back.... record at 44khz and you should be fine...

The second thing... which is more of a side thought. Generally there are a few WAV options to save your sample as... ensure you're saving it as Windows PCM... otherwise some programs won't play it back.

Ditch the audigy. Ditch it now (Or at least relegate it to game playing only).

It's locked to either 48HKz or 96KHz. It has to resample on the ly if you use anything else (ie CD standard 44.1). That is a "Very Bad Thing"(tm)
