Hello. I'm not sure if this should be in the local Toronto/Southern Ontario, local Montreal area, or Chill Out forum, but I have a question: does anyone on here go to Toronto regularly and have found cheaper prices than what Greyhound Canada & Coach Canada offer currently?

Down where I am, in the northeast USA, Greyhound is getting some competition from these small 'Chinatown' bus companies that are offering trips to/from selected cities' Chinatowns at fractions of the prices of the big companies. If anyone here knows what I'm talking about, does anyone know if such services exist for Montreal <--> Toronto?

those do exist in toronto but they are tour packages. they stay in mtl for a few days and depart. check with tai pan tours.
just hope you dont mind being the minority on a bus amongst a language that sounds pretty funny and having old chinese women stare at you like you are the devil.

LOL Funny last sentence there! I don't mind being the only (North) American on the bus, but looks like this is mainly sightseeing, right? Like Starr Tours? Thanks anyway. :-)

I was in Montreal weekly for months at a time in late 2004/early 2005.

Take the train. The bus is painful.

Buy a "Biz-Pack" (10 rides at a time) and you can go return for ~$180.

If you're a student (w/ ISIC) you can probably go return for $150.

OK, nice. I assume this is VIA Rail? How long does it take for the trip?

PS: Any decent concentration (either residential or business neighbourhoods) of Asian population in Montreal? I heard their Chinatown was tiny compared to, say Toronto's & Vancouver's (but at the same time, I don't know who said this either, so maybe I'm wrong).

How does commuting via plane compare to train? Doesn't Westjet or Canjet offer cheap seats?

The train goes from downtown to downtown (minimizing other travel expenses).

As long as you take the direct train (avoid the Ottawa stop and the milk-run) it takes anywhere from 4.5 to 5.5 hours.

What's total time with flying, including checkpoints?

there are people that drive back and forth in Mini-vans or large passenger vans.. they charge you a fraction of what the bus/train does...

some even have websites.. can't think of any of the top of my head... there was one i was on a few weeeks ago.. the guy does the trip almost daily.
